Hey, well my dad gave me his 1989 camry 3s-fe 4 cylinder 5 speed a couple months ago when he bought a new car so i have decided to make some modifications. I was wondering where i could purchase lowering springs. I've looked around but cant find anything for the generation 2 camry! Also i was wondering if there was any good mods for the 3s-fe engine other then an intake? Also I saw this on another camry, he cut his shifter shorter with a dremel tool. It was an automatic though. I was wondering if you could do that with the 5 speed or if there is a problem if you just use a dremel tool to cut the stick shift shorter? And i was wondering if someone could post step by step how to red out the tailights? I kind of have an idea on how to do it but would like to see instructions on how to do it properly. Also are there any turbo kits for the 3s-fe engine? Also post some websites where i could purchase any of the engine mods. Thanks guys, it would be a great help.

i think the general responses will be to do a search. but for the taillights, it is just take them off, then spray with testors transparent candy apple red. but go to http://www.clonegts.com then installs, then Redding out taillights. it's for a celica but procedure is the same. as for turbo kits, i believe toyomoto or something like that once made one, but your best bet would be to do it yourself. i've got almost all the parts for it and will be doing it in a month roughly. talk to 88LE or djprefix for more info. Nopi has a few parts for the 3s-fe (check under the celica GT heading as well).

i think just cutting the stock shifter will mean that the height is shorter, but the throw will not be and more effort is needed to change.

for lowering springs, i think most people over there use Intrax.

i was looking for a list of anyhting that you could possibly do to the engine. I dont want to spend thousands of dollars on it tho. And about the shifter being cut shorter, it would be harder to shift into gear? If anyone has cut the shifter shorter to there 5 speed camry can you give me some feedback?

Headers, intake, exhaust, port & polish head.

Yes. If you cut the shifter shorter you'll have less leverage, which makes it harder to shift.

o alright. Where can i purchase an exhaust system? I have a muffler( just the canister welded to the stock pipes) but would like to know if they sell new larger in diameter exhaust pipes for the 3s-fe? Also if i get headers can you hook the headers right up to the stock exhasut pipes? And oldman, what do you mean swiss cheese my airbox and advance timiong? Can you explain to me the procedure on how to do this?

take a drill with an inch wide bit and drill tons of holes in the bottom part of your stock intake box, less restriction

advancing timing is when you set your distributor a few degrees the opposite way that it rotates, improves high end power but the idle suffers a bit (3-5, maybe 7 degrees)

o alright. Anyone know of any exhaust system pipes? Also i wanna make a custom cold air intake and would like to see pictures and where the intake filter goes? Does it go inside the left front fender where the stock intaker air sucking tube is? The air sucking tube is the thing that is behind the front bumper behind the fender that feeds the air to the intake? Do you get rid of that and put the filter there?

You really shouldn't worry about so much stuff at one time. There are parts for the 2nd gen but they are rare and not many companies to choose from. Also, many times you have to use parts from another toyota. You'll never remember where to get all the stuff from and you I highly doubt you are planning to buy everything at one time. You need any more info, just IM me on AIM. My name on there is Talisman18t. I can tell you what you need to know about modifying your car and at the very least show you where you can get any extra info you may need.

you can get the pacesetter extractors designed for the 3s-fe celica (search for exact years etc), but apparently these dont fit too well and the ceramic coating will flake off. the japspeed one is no longer available. there is also Genies, but these are in australia. beside the extractors you will have to go custom

Talisman18, I was just trying to get a referance of performance mods for the generation 2. I wanna start off by installing performance exhasut pipes. Do they sell any for the generation 2 camry? Could you post where? thanks
Yeah, exactly what crazy_camry just said. You can get headers from pacesetter and genie. If you want a link to a North American provider for the Genie Headers then just say so and I will look up the link. The exhaust is gonna have to be custom though. Just find a good shop that does mendrel bends. It will probably cost less than an aftermarket exhaust anyway and be just as good.

Go custom. IE... Muffler shop.

The filter sits inside the fender.

The thing inside the fender is a resonator.

Its a big box and yes it needs to be removed.

where do you get the piping that goes from the throttle body to the air flow meter?
http://www.jcwhitney.com/webapp/wcs...servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10101&productId=219842&catalogId=10101&langId=-1

And does the filter get dirty a lot because its in the open? And does rain or dirt get in there?
The filter is going to get dirty no matter where you put it. But yeah it does get dirty faster as opposed to it sitting in the engine bay.

My filter would get wet when it rains, but only because I placed the filter way down on the bottom and cut off a piece of the fender liner.

As long as you place the filter inside the fender and the fender liner is covering it your fine.

YA thats what i thought would be the better thing to do. I already have the afm adaptor and the filter so thats taken car of. Now if i wanted to keep the piping chrome does it come chrome from jcwwhitney? Or do you have to sand it an polish it? Also i have 210,000 miles on my camry. I wanted to do a major tune up to make sure that everything is working right and that im not throwing money away by moding my car and then it dying on me in a year or so. What should i expect to change with a major tune up?

I was wondering how many miles the 3s-fe engine can hold before you have to worry about changing major parts in the engine? Mine has 210,000 miles and i was wondering if i have to worry about it soon? how many miles do all the rest of your generation 2 camry's have? I also noticed the other day that there is oil leaking out of my valve cover on the left side near the second cylinder from the left. It's also leaking all the way up to the manifold up the tupe that connects to the second cylinder. What could this be caused by? and how do i fix it?
