I want to buy a camry. I can get cars that need engines and was wondering what year v6 toyota engines will swap right into the camry's from the generation of the '92 to '96 camrys? I really like the look of those cars and am thinking about getting a white one with a sunroof that needs an engine and want the newest v6 I can get for it.

94-96 1mz is best. 92-93 3vz is best. i say that because the chassis wiring is pretty much the same in those years. but if you have the skills, and money!, any engine can be fit into any car.

i actually am one of the few to have completed a i4 to v6 swap. i swapped a 94 camry 5sfe 4 cylinder automatic to a 1994 1mzfe 6 cylinder with standard tranny. i chose to stick with the same year because it was easier to rewire. the fuse boxes are very similar, so everything swaps over the best with the same year chassis & motor.

right now i am working on another swap. i am swapping a JDM celica gt4 3sgte gen 2 motor (1990-93) into my 5sfe standard coupe (1995) right now. this will be a little more difficult, because of the wiring changes, and some of my accessories may not work at first... but it is a huge performance improvement with so much flexibility. it is a great platform for performance. the v6 motors are great for a daily driver. absolutly great. awesome torque, and good power in stock form. i wanted more power though, and it would take too much for the v6 to produce the amount of power which i want ultimately.

i chose to buy the camry in gen 3 as well because i loved the looks of it. i basically had a range of 9 grand tops to shop for a car when i was in college, and the camry was my favorite car at the time. i liked it because i looks at it as a classy sedan, with a middle class, sporty attitude. i went through my phases with it.. obsession with audio, then started to get into looks, then i got to performance. now i am into everything. i am building my car for shows and performance AND to drive on an almost daily basis. i have an awesome sound system installed already, even though i havent even gotten my new motor yet.

no matter what you decide to do, there is a huge community here on TN that will help you along the way.

EDIT:

after seeing felony's post, i would like to let you in on another good piece of information...

here one TN, there are so many people that like to post information with which they do not have personal experience. this is the biggest thing to watch for if you are looking for accurate information. some things you can do are look at a user's previous posts, check their trader rating, check their personal sites, notice the amount of posts and join date to see how much information someone has been through. generally someone with a high post count who is a long time member knows the most and has the most reliable information. on the other hand, this is sometimes not the case.. many newer members are very knowledgable and really do have great information to add to the forum. it really helps the community to expand and have such newer members with the knowledge needed to help others just like some of the veterans have.

in the case of engine swapping... you really want to listen to information from someone who has actually done a particular swap, or at least something close to it if you really want reliable information.
