ICE RALLIES!!!!!!

They're sweet! You guys don't know what your missing! 2 mile long course around a frozen lake. Cars hitting speeds of 80mph+, drifting at 55mph around a corner! There's nothing like it!

Sadly, my computer isn't new enough to upload the video, so that will have to wait till this weekend after the two day rally (one night and one morning event). I'll have some sweet stuff from that too.

It sucks that I had a low battery at the last event. All I got for footage was one run in my friend Dahl's STi. (There was no way in hell anyone could hold that camera still :D ) But I do have some photos of the cars that ran this last weekend (not as big of a turn out as normal. But I'll have more after this coming weekend)

And I'll throw in one of my car taken with night vision :D

I'll make sure and post everything I get this weekend for you guys to see. Peace!

I saw one guy on the forums (NASIOC, I think) talking about it... and how he sunk his Subie when it went through some thin ice... Craziness...I wouldn't mind trying that one day (ice rallying...NOT sinking my car! )

nah, I saw that guy too. Someone posted it on another forum. He was a dumbass and took his STi out on ice that was only 4inch thick. That's just enough for a person to stand on.

No, these are run by SCCA. We require a minimum of 8 inches before we will run, and they measure before every race.

how do they measure? I am sure they don't pole random holes through out the ice to test. That does indeed sound scary, however, FUN!

Yup, how else would you measure? They drill on the inside of the area that will become the track and around the general area (much like ice fisherman do anyways) and then measure the depth to make sure it is safe. It's not like a 1 foot wide hole in 12 inches of ice across the whole lake would make much of a difference in strengh.

I'll get some sweet video this weekend ;)
