I’m trying to help a friend of mine with her Highlander I am not quite sure where the headlight relay is located

The fuse and relay box containing the headlight relay is located in the engine compartment on the left (next to the battery) just under the hood. Unclip the plastic cover of the box. The headlight relay is pointed with an arrow in photo below.

To remove the relay pull up (there may be little tabs to lift on the side of the relay to release). If the relay hasn't been removed for many few years it may be stuck/very tight. Gently wriggle from side to side to loosen before pulling. If still stuck you may need to get a relay puller tool or similar which simply helps hold the relay as you pull up. In no circumstances use ordinary pliers to hold the relay as it's made of plastic and will just damage the plastic.

The photos in the previous post above shows the fuse and relay box in the cabin. This box holds other fuses and relays and being unrelated to the original query may have confused the thread. Higher spec models of Highlander have additional relay boxes and there are a couple of other relays scattered elsewhere in the car (well at least in my case as the car is right hand drive).

I did all you said, can’t find it, the one to the left is permanently attached, the one on right isn’t it…can you please show its specific location???
This is your first post and nowhere is the year or model or "everything" shown...

This is NOT where it is on a Highlander hybrid Limited!!
This is your second post and hey presto Hybrid Limited now appears but still no year or "everything" ...

its a 2006 and it has a completely different fuse box and two other fuse and relay boxes. None of the relays are for the lights. Not even Toyota can tell me where it is!! And with all due respect, I did give the year of the car the make the model everything, and it really doesn’t help when people give you erroneous information
This is your third and last post and hurray we have a year but still not "everything" (whatever that means)...

Sorry can't help as unfamilair with the Hybrid.

This is the forum for the conventional car. There is a separate forum for first generation HiHy’s.
You might try reposting there.
You did not indicate which post you were replying. You also didn’t indicate if you have DRLs though you finally did indicate it is a Limited, so should have DRLs.
On this forum it is considered polite to give the full description of your vehicle and your problem. You would be surprised at the number of posts where someone says that they have the “same” problem whenIt is actually a different issue from the one they think.

Looks like you may have decided to not come back, but to answer the question for others, I happen to have the 2006 HiHy EWD. And it turns out that the question was answered above for the hybrid. It certainly appears that the headlight relays are integrated (not removable!) into the Engine Room Junction Block (with the exception of DRL3)

The junction block has a different shape than the conventional car but is in the approximate location described by Boony. As Ivan would say, part of the hidden cost of hybrids. You can still test the relays if you can get access to the connector side of the board or by testing further along the wiring. But be careful- it looks like they are solid state and might be damaged by reverse polarity or static electricity.
By the way, Boony is one of the major contributors on this subforum.
