I have a 1990 pickup with the 3vze engine. I was told I should check my IAC but I can't find it. I was told it was hooked to the bottom of the throttle body. But there isn't one there, the only thing on the TB is the TPS. PLEASE HELP!

Your truck doesn't have an actual IAC valve like a Ford or a Chevy would. It has more of a cold start valve type of a deal. It's not electronically controlled but instead is activated by the coolant temperature. It is at the bottom of the TB. You will see a coolant hose running to it. All it does is raises your idle during a cold start for about 3-5 minutes.

good luck.

Yes it can get gummed up & stuck. I would think that if it was stuck that you would just have a low idle during start up & once you were at normal operating temp it wouldn't matter. IMO I would look elsewhere for your stalling problem. Try checking for vacuum leaks first as it's fairly common & if there is a big enough vacuum leak it could cause it to stall out. It could be many things though. You really have to start trouble shooting the most common & go from there. Is your truck getting fuel? is it getting spark? Will it stay running after the 10 seconds if you press the accelerator? Check engine light on? I'm sure that if you post enough information that we will be able to get it figured out for you. There are many others on here who can give you some great advice.

Alright, here is all the information. It is a 1990 pickup extra cab 4x4 with a 3vze engine. It has a new rebuild and I can't get it to run right. I have new plugs, and have already replaced the MAF. If I hold the accelerator it will stay running. I am also getting oil in my air filter, maybe the pcv? Would this cause bad idle? I have checked all of my vacuum lines, and they are all good. I don't know where else to check for leaks. I have cleaned my egr valve and the filter next to it. I have checked my TPS and it tests good. I am getting two codes: 21- heated o2 sensor, and 43- starter signal. I think those are triggered by the problems i'm having; not the cause. I am stumped. Any ideas?
