Why did you buy a Tacoma?

Just curious as to what led all of you to buy a Tacoma, given the many choices out there. Since I'm electing to drive and maintain only 1 car these days, and I needed a truck, my choice came down to 2 brands (went with Toyota!). I wanted something:

1- more fun to drive and easier to park than my RAM QC
2- easier on gas than my RAM,
3- dependable
4- with good resale,
5- able to tow RV @ 3200 lbs.,
6- with good service
7- with alleged Toyota build quality.....I say alleged because after reading many posts, Toyotas appear to rattle, squeak and misbehave just like any other brand; albeit less.

How about you??

i don't know other brand you are considering. but it sounds like the tacoma will suit you perfectly. the tacoma has a BAD ASS turning radius. mine gets decent gas mileage for a 4x4, but far better than a ram qc i'm sure. toyota dependability and resale are givens. it can handle towing 3200lbs. but depending on distance and elevation changes it may not be the ideal truck for that job.

the main reasons i chose the taco is because of it's off road capabilities and aftermarket products available. at least those are the main reasons it left all the other trucks in the dust

I owned a 91 Reg Cab with 100K miles on it, and the only thing that ever went bad was the contacts in the starter. 15$ and an hour later, my truck was like new. Plain and simple, I bought this truck because of how damn well the other one ran and lasted. My father and I beat the ever living snot out of the last one and it took it like a champ. I got rid of the other one for several reasons:

Rust bucket - Started to become an eyesore
More power - the 4cyl 22RE just wasn't cutting it for me
More room - thus the doublecab
Looks - this truck looks WAY better than my 91 did
Mine - this truck is 100% mine! :D

I bought mine because I was sick of not being able to haul anything with my honda civic. Although I havent hauled anything I still love it. It was the Tacoma or an STI, but I just couldnt swallow the high insurance for that subaru. As it turns out I couldnt be happier with my choice:)

i too was considering the sti. i had an '04 wrx that i had done a bit of modding to, so i decided to get a vehicle to play in the dirt instead of the pavement

1. Value
2. Quality
3. Room
4. longevity (Value in keeping the truck for 10 years)
5. Mileage
6. It's what the GF wanted.

Long story short the GF's 6 year old Forkedus broke down 4 times in 2 weeks causing me to lose work and cost me a pretty penny to get running again. This was also after butting heads with the dealer on fixing something they broke. After the Ign locked for the third time since she had the POS we went to trade the bugger in. It was really fun because we drove it in with a screwdriver in the inigtion. At that point it didn't matter anymore I was just done with that piecer and the GF had been lusting after a Taco for about a year and a half now.

i bought mine as a godsent fluke. was gonna get a 03 dodge quad cab dakota but it got sold, so the salesman showed me my truck at first i didnt even want it, but after driving it and seeing all the cool little details like the aluminum bezels around the gauges and awsome gauges, sweet stereo. i was sold on the motor! i got a 4cyl but man it kicks ass.

I bought mine because I was tired of passing up all the wonderful dirt roads leading over the next hill. I wanted a car that could go wherever I wanted to and haul everything I wanted to take to the end of the road. SUVs purport to have a large amount of cargo space, but in my experience reality is otherwise. I didn't need room for more than two people and a dog and with my topper I can sleep in the back on a getaway or while I wait for the tide to change. With the TRD package I have all the offroad capability I need straight from the factory (save those terrible tires).

In short the Tacoma was a good means to an end. It enables me to more fully enjoy my lifestyle. I'm headed to the tip of Baja after the first of the year, anyone want to caravan?

I traded my 98 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 V-6 Auto Ext Cab TRD for a 2006 V-6 Auto 4x4 longbed double cab. I had 104000 on the 98 and only replaced the starter, battery, tires and fluids. I got $9000 for my trade plus a little over $3100 off the sticker.

I just needed more interior room for passengers. The only complaint so far I have after three months is the lack of sound deadening material above the headliner and the roof. I plan to fix that in the spring though.
