Why should I but this truck?

Engine ticks, thin sheet metal, weak tailgate, requires premium gas, poor mileage... Maybe I should test the Nissan...

I realize no truck is perfect, but geez, this forum scares off potential buyers...

my engine doesnt tick... my sheet metal doesn't bend when I wash my roof... I sit on my tailgate with my friends and nothing happens... my truck doesnt require premium gas... If you want great gas milage get a sub compact car, you dont buy a truck for good gas milage...

My truck has been nothing but perfect for me so far. I had a civic and what I gain from having this truck over a honda more than makes up for the gas milage difference.

Some of us have issues and some of us don't.

The main problem I have been having is weak sheet metal.

I have had to pop out 2 dents on my tailgate from simply a hand closing the tailgate and my knee tapping the tailgate.

I have had to pop out 2 dents from my roof from washing the truck and hitting a tree branch.

Other than that, the truck has been great.

Have you been on a car forum before? Every single one is just like you describe and most complain about worse problems than the ones you mention about the Tacoma. Forums like these bring out the questions and complaints people have.
Exactly. Before I bought, and while I owned my Audi s4, I was active on audiworld.com. People had a lot of issues with their $55k s4's. It was still the greatest car I ever owned, and I really love my Taco. The forum is a venue for people with common problems across all 50 states and even around the world to share experiences. It's important to remember that it spans a lot more than your local community. I dare say that if I only spoke to taco owners in my local area, it would be highly unlikely that two of us would share a common problem.

I 100% agree with amp2oo1 and cj99si. The truck has been perfect for me without any problems. I do a lot with my truck and require that is does it all with no problem. This truck has been absolutely perfect for me. If you are bitching about it before you buy it, then you won't expect anything other than shitty quality. In the end, you are buying a toyota so it will proably outlast you poor opinion of it.

Sure this truck has issues! Hell! I should know? I had my engine re-built. The gas milage could be better! (But if you're worried about pennies) Then maybe spending $30,000.00 on a truck (or any car for that matter)isn't in your budget? As for the thin sheet metal. WHAT? Thin sheet metal? I have owned imports all my life and and they have always been built this way! Sure! It's not armored plated like an american made muscle car. But it is what it is? These truck are very safe!! A few people have had high speed accidents and walk away with only scratches.

The only one who would know if you should buy it is you!

Hey?! and if you do buy it? Come along and bitch about it with the rest of us and have a grand'ole time! I'll see ya at the gas pump!!!

Why you should not "but" this truck: Engine ticks, thin sheet metal, weak tailgate, requires premium gas, poor mileage...

Why you should buy this truck: Because you can, Because you like it, Because you like to be abused on this forum by me, Because you forgot to mention the wind noise, front end vibration, cheap plastic bed that cracks and has no good places for tiedowns, transmission that shifts funky and kicks you in the butt when you come to a stop, soft paint that chips easy, lack of heated seats and mirrors , lack of moon roof , Because you can put a k&n filter in and then brag on the forum about it then get flamed because it will ruin your engine, Because you like the plastic interior that creaks and scratches easy ...... and so on and so on...

I think you just answered your own question. No matter what truck you buy, there will always be some out there with flaws. Not every Tacoma has those flaws that you mentioned. I have no ticks, I have had no issues with weak sheet metal. You don't have to use premium gas. And granted you ain't gonna get exceptional gas mileage off of a 4.0L V6. Get a hybrid of some other gas saving 4 cyl. if you want good gas mileage.

Basically, if you don't want it, don't get it. It's your decision and your money.

Enough already? lmao

Ok, I get it...
Money isn't really an issue since I will be laying out cash, but I don't ever like to piss away money either...
I've test driven the truck twice. I liked it. The seat is a little firm and small for my taste, but the cab is layed out nicely. I didn't hear a ticking noise. However, I never got above 50 mph either...
I can nab an 06 Prerunner Access Cab V6 with SR5 and towing package for $21,900. I just may pull the trigger on this deal. :D

You should buy it because its a Toyota. It has quality, reliability and resale value that no other compact/midsize truck can match.
You should take anything you read on any forum with a grain of salt. Most of the time, the people who are unhappy do a lot more talking than the people who are happy.
You also have a lot of people out there who are paranoid and will try to find any reason to complain about their truck.
No Toyota is perfect, but at their worst they are a heck of a lot better than any other brand.

Try a Nissan...............nice smooth and heavy truck......400 pounds heavier. Think they don't rattle? If they didn't, I'd be driving one now. If they had a halfway decent resale, I'd be driving one. If they looked better than homely macho, I'd be driving one now.

Love my Tacoma and personally I like getting 20.5 mpg on every tank. A Nissan gets what my big Dodge did--what's the point of driving a small truck if it sucks gas like a big comfortable truck?

I've been a car guy since the day I was born. My first vehicle was a 75 FJ40, 2nd 76 FJ40, 3rd 83 Toyota Pickup, and many more after that......I have been in the Auto industry for 9 years now and I know this...
If you buy a Ridgeline you are buying a car that looks like a truck.
If you buy a Nissan you are buying a good truck, but one that is sub-standard to a Toyota.
If you buy domestic.......Well just don't!!
The only thing that I think could possibly and truly make my Tacoma better and it would be a V-6 diesel.
You won't be dissapointed with the Toyota. I bought my 05 Tacoma because I wanted something that is reliable and would stand the test of time. I know I made the best choice possible.

Haha these forums are great. Ya the Taco is the best thing you can get. That engine tick you wont find above 50mph its usually heard at idle or slow-moderate acceleration.

I only hear the ticking when your outside or next to a wall. But alot of cars do it now a days anyways. My buddies altimas ticking is louder then my tacomas. Its very quite in the cab. I hear no ticking in mine inside the cab

Im sure the 07 will be built better man. I say defently get one. There fun to drive and are great trucks. Not one vehicle is perfect.

Don't buy the Tacoma - then you'd have to put up with these guys.
+1 - Besides the steering wheel flutter which was fixed by rebalancing the tires, mine has been perfect. No other complaints except there's not enough time in the day to drive it more!
