I did 20% and they match perfect.

 

Tint meter reads 21% for rear windows...so 20% tint on front windows will match perfectly.

 

If the rear windows read 21%, then you need to have 30% Film applied to the front in order to get them to match. Windows with no tint are at around 70% naturally when it comes to light transmittance. Adding a 30% film will get you to 21% tint (.7 x .3 = .21). If you add a 20% film, you will be at 14% (.7 x .2 = .14)

 

I'm speaking from personal experience here - I had 30% tint on my front windows and it did NOT match the rear windows. It was clearly lighter, which bugged me because I wanted a clean uniform look. Took off the 30% and installed 20% on the the front and it now matches perfectly.

 

I tinted 5% over 20% factory on sides only. Perfect for privacy

 

When I went to tint the front side windows, I was told the back is at 17%. They applied 20% tint on the front and it looks perfect.

 

Xpel XR. 20% on front 2 windows. 35% on the rest.

this looks pretty close. did you do yourself? i want to just get the precut sheets

 

30% sides, and rear, 18 sunroof, and 80% windshield.

 

We also did 20% and it looks awesome. My wife mainly drives the highlander and she is very critical. When I went to buy an electric car she pointed out the glove box doesn't line up in a Tesla model 3. Needless to say there isn't a Tesla in the garage next to the Highlander.

 

Mine has 30% llumar ctx ceramic too. The dealer installed or I would have gone with 20% as I’ve always done but it looks good enough, is a quality tint and I’m legal for a change. I want to add coverage to the windshield, but will keep it light at 70%

 

Just remember to follow your state or province HTA regarding window tinting and you'll be OK.
