This is the bearing of the wiper that is getting old..

Mine just do 80-90% of the normal range and to replace that it's ~250$CDN

It's something 'normal' on camry that have a lot of mileage.. Mine have 300000km on it and a friend had the same problem with the '93 Camry of his parents

 

Thank you. I'll tell you what though, toyota parts are expensive. I guess that goes with all car parts though. And to think, I also have to get a new pump for the washer fluid, thats 120 USD.

I guess it could be the bearings though because I forgot to mention every once in a while when i would first turn the wipers on after the car had been sitting, it would make a really weird whinning noise then the noise would cease and everything would be fine.

Okay. I took the cowl louver and everything apart. It seem the wiper link has become disconnected from the wiper motor. What happened? The plastic bushings that held the wiper link to the wiper moter split in half. Easy to fix, just a quick drive to Toyota to get the new bushing set and reinstall. I'm just glad it wasn't the motor that was messed up. I was worried about stripped gears or something that would make me have to replace the entire motor.

On the other hand, i think i'm just going to have Toyota fix the washer motor, i'm tired of messing with this car in the cold.

I know this was a really old thread but I was wondering if your dealer actually had a bushing kit, my dealer told me I would have to purchase all of the mechanics to get those because they didn't sell them on their own.

While I don't have solid information, that seems to be how Toyota likes to do things. Some one was complaining about you have to buy the whole control arm set to get just the bushing.

 

As it turns out I was able to 'fabricate' a solution using a brass bushing from Lowe's and an E-pin to hold it on, it seems to be working alright but it's only been on since last night. I greased it up real well and the play on the wipers is significantly better, I just hope the solution lasts. At any rate where I'm sitting right now I have about 6 dollars in parts on the car and about 20 tied up in experimenting with a solution.

Much better than the 200 for the entire mechanism!

That will not wear out for ages.

If I recall, the pivot and bushing is in an dust exposed area, so easy on the lube.

 

The wipers aren't as smooth as they could be, I would like to get a nylon bushing and get it between the brass and the wiper linkage to smooth things up a bit.

Good ideal on the lube comment, I might have overdone it a bit but I was getting paranoid about it breaking again.

 

Noisy Camry LE Wipers

My wiper motor started making noise when wipers are on. They still work normally but sounds terrible and worried they will pack it in. Any ideas what could cause this, other than a failing motor? I have about 140 K on my 2003. Thanks for any help.

Dunno on that one, what kind of noise? Whine, pop, ??? Do the wipers make jerky motions? Could be something causing friction between the motor and the wiper transmission I suppose. Give us some more detail, maybe someone will have an answer for you.

I pulled off the motor thinking the motor had burnt out. I looked to see where the motor pulls on the linkage and that it was broken and bent. Anything i can do? It looks like I can bend it back. Is there a name for that part?

So I seem to have a similar problem. Except the bushings are fine. The problem lies in the part of the wiper arm that the bushing bites into. It is thoroughly stripped and smooth, so I'm going out to get a new wiper arm. Or in fact a used arm from the junkyard.

 

I had a similar problem on my new(to me) 2009 Camry XLE. Driving at night, temp about 32 degrees, it started to rain and sleet, but when I turned on my wipers, they did not function at all. Very scary. I made it the 8 miles home but the next day, the wipers worked fine. What was that all about? Any ideas? The dealership had no idea.

 

For me it was simply that the metal arm had worn away where the bushings fit into. Bought a new one and no more problems. It is dead simple to check, there is a cover near the pivot point and one bolt to remove to check the bushings and the metal arm. If its not that, then you have some sort of motor or electrical issue.
