I am curious what kind of longevity the 3rd Gen Highlanders are getting in terms of miles driven. My 2017 just turned 60k miles and would like to know who has some high mileage experiences to share.

A 2014 driven 20,000 miles a year would be between 160,000 and 180,000 miles. We have one member that I know of with 180k on his 2014. I’ll let @MikeInNH chime in on his experience.

FYI: I’m at 99k with only a rotted heat shield having to be addressed beyond routine maintenance. Spark plugs will be coming up and sway bay bushings in my immediate future.

Most likely NYC cabs and car service vehicles. The Highlander is a popular choice for them. Or go on cars and do an advanced search for used Highlanders, year 2014 - 2019 and filter by the highest mileage. Then you can look at the ones where there is a free Carfax and take a peek at the service history (if reported).

Like this 2015 w/ 198K miles. Looks like 10K oil change intervals. Looks like the only thing outside of normal maintenance was a strut replacement. :

Another 192K miles example, 10K oil changes, no other repair outside of regular maintenance.

2016 186K example, 5K oil change intervals, no other repairs outside of regular maintenance.

About 183k miles right now and still going strong. No repairs. Only preventative maintenance and normal wear and tear items (brakes, tires...etc). I change my oil every 5k miles. Based on the past 5+ vehicles we've owned that easily reached 300k miles with no engine issues - I expect the same for this vehicle.

Where does it say 10k oil change intervals?

2019 Highlander SE with 182k on it. We purchased it last year with 125k and, per CarFax, only maintenance items were performed. We have replaced the battery, front and rear brakes/rotors, the right CV boot (which required an axel replacement) and now it's at the dealer awaiting a new transmission. We are also getting some shimmy on the left side at braking over 40 mph, and Discount Tire told us they think it needs a front end alignment. Waiting to see if that's the issue, or if we have a control arm issue as well. We purchased the extended warranty, and the CV boot and transmission were both covered.

2016 LE plus with the V6 with 212k miles on it. Bought it with 80k on it in May of 2019. My wife commutes an hour one way to work and back 5 days a week. It’s still trustworthy. Drivers lock doesn’t work with remote, radio stopped working, drivers door hinge droops just enough to make it squeak. Everything else still feels and drives brand new. Just hard to keep it clean with 3 kids. We have always had Toyota dealership do oil change, rotate tires, and spark plugs one time.

Update: shortly after posting this we noticed her heat stopped getting warm then saw antifreeze all over engine bay. Turned out the radiator was rusting. Had to get a new one put in. $500ish - wasn’t too bad

I have the same 2015 Platinum (with 132K). The 2GR-FE is a pretty great motor (as is the FKS). As we are learning, it's the 6 speed transmission that sets the FE Highlanders apart in terms of longevity.

My only major repair has been the water pump which was a pretty time consuming job but not that complicated (it sucked). Do you know if anything significant has been done to your Platinum? I'd imagine shocks/struts and possibly wheel bearings would be expected failures before 200k.

Enjoying my 2016 XLE @ 125k miles but had to get the water pump replaced which is common for this gen. My only issue was the OEM front Axel / CV Boots which needed to be replaced every 60k miles because of the premature CV boot leak causing the knocking on the axel. I do replace my Brakes & Rotors with preformance onces for better stopping.

Added the Apple Carplay decorder on my Factory radio and cloudn't be any happier to keep the original stuff without any issues. The wireless options is flawless with no delay or lag. Love it and hoping to drive before the wheels fall apart.

Installed this unit in March of 2024 and it works great. AliExpress had it for $187 US…
