Howdy folks! I want to switch to full synthetic oil. I just had my valve cover gasket replaced and there was a lot of varnish much to my displeasure. Anyone else running full synth 0w 20 in their V6?
Also, what are your opinions? BTW I want to run High Mileage full synthetic.

Thanks in advance! :)

I run full synthetic Valvoline high mileage 5W-30 oil in my HL 3.3 V6 engine. I believe that the 0W-20 oil is for the 3.5 V6 not the 3.0/3.3 V6 engines.

The pervious owner didnt change the oil on a timely basis. Lots of varnish. Im thinking the thin stuff WITH high mileage additives might loosen the crud and keep the small lubricating holes running well. PLUS its winter. 6F temps. Is my thought process off?

Yep, I switched all our vehicles to full synthetic years ago. There's urban legends that say switching an engine from conventional oil to the lighter synthetic will make gaskets leak....not true.

But never switch viscosity...always put what it says in the oil refill cap. (Thicker/thinner oil can affect the sensitive VVT-i system.)

I'm excited for the new Valvoline oil "Restore and Protect" for our older vehicles....will be using that on their next oil change....I'm seeing it sold in more and more locations, including Walmart.

Wrong way of looking at the issue for sure. Like you mentioned; modern synthetic oil do not damage seals. However, if you have an neglected engine that is sludged and decided to clean it out with a flush or start to use synthetic oil with a good detergent then your engine may leak when the synthetic oil or engine flush clear away the sludge that was blocking an damaged seal and prevented it from leaking oil outside the engine.

Walmart High Mileage 5w30 🤨I think we ALL agree on full synthetic. Okay! Done....... BUT now what about the filter!? I hear high end Frams arent as good as Mobil1
