Hello TN....need your help!!!!! I have an 4cyl 02 Camry LE and I'm getting an P0420 trouble code. I've changed Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor that comes off the front Cat Converter and the rear 02 Sensor that is off of the rear Cat and I'm still getting that code, so as a result I'm changing the front converter that comes off the exhaust manifold. Now my questions is:

#1. Do I have to put any type of compound or anti-sieze on the new gasket that goes over the cylinder head studs?

#2. Do I have to put any compound or anti-sieze on the O-Ring at the bottom of the front Cat. as well before I re-assemble everything?

Not 100% but would think no to the gaskets, too much heat. When you take it apart the answer will be clear. Anti seize on the bolts? maybe if you ever plan to do it again. Would you mind documenting the procedure? Thank you. Also reading about this problem part of the issue is the ECM is programed to trigger the P0420 catalyst efficiency CEL somewhere around 95%. There is a TSB where the cat is replaced along with a ECM reprogram to set the threshold lower. You may want to look into having the reprogram done.

I apologize for taking so long to respond but I bought my cat. converter from a family friend who works at an auto shop for $291. but I found a site online that has the OE cat converter for $310. the site is discount catalytic converter.com and the part is east 40587.

I get a P0420 after a highway trip, turns off around town, so it still passes inspection. Considering cats are 90% good when the light goes on and easy to remove, going to try cleaning mine before I get caught with the light on at an inspection. Will report back how that goes, what I used, etc.

Never had a problem with rockauto. The Eastern is a good match. Regardless, should have fit. Hey now you get a chance to clean the old one and just return that one. If your interested I can give you assistance

I've been having this problem for about 6 months, I just disregarded it because I noticed that the car wasn't really affected by it. I'll try this forsure though, thanks for the info!

I have learned of the 0420 with the Honda and have had spacer on the rear (downstream) sensor for over 3 years. Have passed California emissions twice so far (current). Some have done the spacer here in camry forum for multiple cats.

Will use this cleaning procedure on the corolla and try out. It is worth the time to keep this clean.
