Hi everyone, I’m new here, and not sure where to place my question. I have searched, but can’t seem to find the answer. I have an 04 Matrix XRS, and was told the secondary air injection pump is damaged and needs to be replaced. Well, seems the pump is discontinued and costs super expensive from the dealer. I’ve heard about people swapping an 03 Matrix ECU into an 04, thus bypassing the pump issues. Can anyone please tell me how to do this, if this is indeed possible, and what specifically needs to be done to make it work properly? Or direct me to the post or the information? I’m not the most car repair savvy, but I have a couple friends that could help me do it, and I’ve just been driving with this issue and haven’t known what to do about it. Thanks in advance for any help.

Try using car-part.com or Row52 to locate a Matrix XRS with a good condition air injection pump. The modified ECU will just bypass the system anyways. You can also use 04-08 matrix ecu or 05-06 Corolla xrs ECU. The nice thing with the later gen 1 matrix ecu is that you will not have a CEL for the air injection. Was told it can be turned off by software and then removed from the car. But, if your state requires emissions testing, that isn't a good idea. Since that is part of the emissions system.

Last I heard, Orangevirus tuning may be the only tuner that can help out. Mathew is the person I spoke to about it. He said that they would need to have the ECU with them.
