I believe you would get a check engine light if you just plugged the air injection ports. You'd need a tune that deletes the DTC code.

 

Hello,

I have an 05 Corolla Xrs, I purchased a ppe header without air injection ports, will have a custom 3inch intake, and 2.5 inch exhaust.

Does anyone know what will happen if I were to install just the headers before I got it tuned for no air injection? Would this result in just a check engine, or would it make my car limp or get any other issues? (I know it cannot work with the 3inch intake without the tune)

The air injection is used for cold starts only. You will need a tune for it should you delete it. If you live in California, forget about it.

 

Okay so basically just check engine light? No limp mode? And nope I live near Chicago that doesnt apply.

 

No limp mode. It only runs for 30 seconds during cold start and when the system goes to closed loop. It’s vacuum controlled. It’s for evap.

Yeah, you will need the tune for a custom 3” intake. But better to play it safe and make the MAF sensor the stock diameter which won’t need a tune. Only the sensor portion needs a 4inch length of stock diameter. The rest of the piping can be tapered out to 3”. Then again, custom can be good or bad depending on how you execute it.
