I just had to have my vehicle towed to the dealership this weekend because it died and wouldn't keep running long enough for me to drive it in. The engine idled rough, check engine light, AT/Oil light and battery lights came on. After repeated attempts to keep it running failed, my husband tried jumping the battery. As long as it was connected to his battery, the vehicle would idle properly. After it was removed from the battery cables, it would not run. The service department told us the got a P0230 error, but now the vehicle is running fine for them. They have driven it several times today and no problems are coming up.

I am afraid to pick it up because nothing has been identified or repaired. Any suggestions?

Verify battery/charging system normal. Reset error code.

If returns check error code for causes/solutions among which intermittent fuel pump relay/control circuit.
DIY guess, substitute know good pump relay.
More involved, test for intermittent. Try to simulate problem by tapping/wiggling relay/wires/connections in order to localize problem.

If service department has already done this without success than you may want to find an auto electric diagnostic specialists who can spend some time on it.

Thanks for the info. I had taken the car to a "Toyota" repairman and he could not fix it either , it cranks but will not start but then on other days it will start fine, also the engine will shut off while driving and sometimes it will sputter or run rough then shut off . What I have replaced so far is Fuel pump, fuel pump relay , fuel pump fuse, fuel filter, cam sensor , throttle body and two coils. The car is a 2006 land cruiser with 130k on it. The exhaust smells like fuel as well at times . I am thinking it could possibly be ignition/key or fuel pressure regulator . It also seems like it is not getting spark sometimes when it does not start.
The battery is 2 years old and it tests good, put load test on it . Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks

"What I have replaced so far is Fuel pump, fuel pump relay , fuel pump fuse, fuel filter, cam sensor , throttle body and two coils."
Try not to replace parts unless you have a specific diagnosis. Reason being is that replacement parts and procedures can introduce problems that weren't there before.

If you have the error code P0230 the ECM monitors the voltage on the coil of C/OPN relay. Check the C/OPN coil circuit for B+
Don't have specific diagram so you'll have to search for it.

At first the dealership couldn't get it to error, but I made them keep the car until it did it again. It was error code P0230-Fuel Pump relay circuit. They inspected and found no problems with the pump relay or circuit. They found the wiring damaged for Bank 1 cam sensor. I had hit a deer awhile ago and when the body shop fixed my car I think they routed some wiring incorrectly. The timing belt rubbed through the wiring causing the engine to shut off. After they replaced the sensor, I haven't had any issues.

Starwoman thanks for the reply.

Apparently the cam sensor circuit doesn't set an error code itself or it was missed the first time.
Pump relay control circuit errors when no cam signal present at the ECM.
Guess it makes sense since they are connected internal to the ECM.

Something that cws needs to be aware of.
