That price makes no sense, unless they are replacing the rear differential.

The seals themselves are only ~$20. The rest is labor and it shouldn't be that bad.

I can't tell if that CV boot is leaking or if something is dripping onto it. While you're at it you might also want to check for the timing cover leak.

 

Is it leaving drops on your driveway or in your garage. My transfer case rear seal is leaking a bit and the right driveshaft seal coming out of the diff is also leaking. When I'm under it I can see a drip hanging from both spots. I've changed the fluid in both and now I just check the fluid level once or twice a year. It doesn't seem to go down much and never leaves a spot of oil in my driveway. For me I'm just going to keep an eye on the level, not going to replace the seals unless it gets worst.
