Toyota Motor Corp is recalling about 95,700 Toyota and Scion vehicles sold in the United States because ice could accumulate on their braking systems and make it harder for drivers to slow down.

The recall involves 2009 and 2010 model year Toyota Corolla, Corolla Matrix and 2008 and 2009 Scion xD vehicles, all equipped with 1.8 liter engines, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

If people drive the cars in extremely low temperatures, ice may accumulate at the brake system port and decrease braking power and lengthen vehicle stopping distances, Toyota said.

Since the condition can happen at low temperatures, Toyota's recall applies to vehicle owners in 19 states: Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

Why is Nevada on this an not Massachusetts or Washington State? Does Nevada really have ice cold temperature that is put ice on thier breaks. I will be calling my dealer soon on this and get some explanation to why MA is not on this lists.
Yea I'm with you guys on this! Idoho is included but not Washington:confused:
Also timing of this recall is very interesting, right after "Cash For Clunker" is over and top selling car during this period?....Toyota Corolla.

I am with you on this.....not sure why the DC area (Maryland, DC, and Virginia) are not on the list. We get snow and ice and routinely see temps below the freezing mark.

My question is how are they going to fix it....install XRS systems on all the 1.8L ?? Put a little hood over the affected area ??

I have driven my car at near -40C/F and never noticed anything other than the crap Firestone tires are not so good in the snow, but then anything short of a real winter tire will be noticeable.

Look closely at the wording in the recall bulletin, this has nothing to do with the brakes themselves, it is for the area where the brake booster check valve resides under the hood. This probably explains why the XRS is not affected, slightly different under the hood.

Toyota dealers do not have any parts or installation instructions yet. Don't everybody start calling their dealers, lol.

I wish PA was on the list. I drove my LE through the winter already and it really does suck. I had a vast amount of ice on the front and braking is extremely hard and not to mention that once you hit 35+mph the car and steering shakes so much that before you know it your coke in the cup holder is flat.

I have a update on this. For people who states is not mention in the recall you should call toyota at 1800-331-4331 and press 5 for them check on if your vehicle is part of the recall. Its more on the VIN base gussing where the car was made. More then state base as how the recall was stated.

Interesting...since Canada has sold 100,000 Corolla's alone - This might be a "relatively" small group of cars compared to the number on the road. I wonder when & where the parts supplier went wrong???

Oh and for those of you in Washington, this issue "could" manifest itself during LONG-periods of "extreme" cold. Come up to Canada and see what that's about. Washington is practically Florida by comparison. ;)
