Alright, so I've been driving my '88 for about a week and the 22re just isn't cutting it for me :)headbang: Go.... faster... arg)

So before I decided to go all noobish and expect spoon fed answers, I researched some stuff myself (GASP!).

Here are the engines I am interested in learning more about:
- 7mgte (I believe this comes out of a circa 1994 Supra?)
- 5vz-fe (another common swap I hear has wonderful results)
- And of course, the 6cyl twin-turbo, 1jzte

I'm really leaning towards the 1jzte, but really all I'm looking for here is some advice . As I said, I'm converting from a 4cyl, and have automatic transmission (although with all the fab I'll have to do with the swap, I'm really not opposed to getting a manual, since I'll probably need to get a more compatible tranny anyway)

Any and all advice is welcome! Thanks guys

- Dingo

The 5MGE/TE and 7MGE/TE swaps are more common and more "doable", mainly because the engine will bolt up to the 22RE tranny.
There's lots of info if you google

The 3.4 V6 would require a lot of driveline changes. It's a better swap if you have the 3.0

well, easier then the engine swap would be an auto to manual conversion. I had a 22re auto and lets just say I sold it in about 6 weeks bc it was too gutless. I would have done the swap myself, but it was cheaper for me to sell mine then buy one I had already been watching on craigslist.

In the end, went from 18mpg to 24mpg, way better throttle response, and now I am not thinking of doing anything other then rebuilding the 22re when the time comes.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do.
