1993 22re AFM issue?

I recently had a brand new 22re engine put into my 1993 pickup by a reputable local shop. After a couple thousand miles it started running rich. I brought it back to my mechanic and he said to swap in a working AFM and that should fix it. I'm on the hunt for a good condition afm for a 1993 22re pickup 2wd. Any help is appreciated. Fyi, I'm in California.

I've had a hard time deciphering which companies are legit to buy one from or if I should just buy a used one from one of you fine fellows.

Thanks in advance!

1993 22re AFM issue. Please help!

I understand this post was pretty vague, let me clarify, as I'm desperate to figure this out before I have to buy a new CAT (I just had the whole exhaust system redone with 2 1/4" tubes, new CAT and new magnaflow muffler.)

Let's start from just after the new motor.

Brand new motor is running great. Breaking it in just fine, keeping low rpms and being very nice to it. After 3k-ish miles I start to get a little heavier with the gas pedal. At this point, when I hit the gas harder than a feather, it starts to bog down. I search the forums and try adjusting my afm. I turn it until it runs well and good (about 7 notches clockwise) she runs great, but now when I drive long distance it smells like rotten eggs. My mechanic covers all his work, but the afm is my problem and he says I need another one.

It's not throwing any codes or having any other issues aside from the bad smell. Doesn't smell rich on start-up either. Just after sustained high rpm driving.

Anyone have some advice? Is there a legit place to buy refurbished afm's? I've heard of the afm swap from camry's and supras. Is it worth the hunt?

I'm desperate to fix this as it's my only vehicle and I can't afford a new $700 afm from the dealership...

ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED GENTLEMEN!

I'm at a loss here. I've worked on cars most of my life, but this is a little out of my territory.

Thank you!

Hey, I’ve been having issues with my 94s AFM lately and am in a similar boat, was just wondering if you solved the issue of what AFM to get, and how much it cost. Thanks!

I ended up just messing with my AFM a little, now the issue stop, at least for now. I know my air/fuel ratio is off and runs rich. Gonna try a few things to fix that and see if it helps. (O2 sensor out, AFM working decently but not great)
