I am having bad oil consumption issues with the engine that comes with the 98 corolla and I've have seen many people saying that the 1zzfe from the 03 and up corollas addressed these issues. I have no intention to gain performance or anything like that. Im only here the reliability and gas mileage. Now I am strongly considering doing a swap soon because I saw someone say it is a direct fit and plug and play, but I would like to know if anyone has experience with this exact swap or just any more information on how strenuous doing this swap might or what may not work. Please share any info you have. Thank you.

Yes, an 03-08 1zz will fit in your 1998, but you will have to use your older intake and exhaust manifolds. You also need to use your 1998 transmission. On top of this, you will have to swap in an engine harness and ecu from a 2000-2002 Corolla that came with the same transmission your 1998 has. Other than that, all the mounting points are the same and it is all turn key ready.
