2000 XLE V6 - Gas smell at idle when HVAC on

We have 2000 XLE V6 with 197.4K kilometers or (122.5K miles). Whenever the car is at idle with the HVAC system on there a slight hit of gasoline smell. Our mechanics have never been able to pin point the cause without suggesting a list of possible items to replace.

Has anyone else encountered a similar issue? Otherwise the car works fine. The current work around is to shut off the HVAC during extended periods at idle.

Thanks in advance for any input.

My car exhaust smells...smelly. I know the cat is probably dead..lol bad haha.

The only other car I've dealt with regarding a gasoline smell, the gas tank was leaking. Would get a nice breeze if it underneath the car.

only occurs when car is running?

Speaking of leak, if your leaking gas, you'll noticed a significant drop is gas miles. gas leak for the Gen4 Camry is not common. Can't think of anything leaking unless the gas lines are rusted or damaged.
