Hi, I was given a 2001 Toyota Prius, 187K on it. It's a basket case. The gas engine itself runs great but, there is no Hybrid battery in it, previous owner tried to use a camary hybrid battery but, was not compatible, there is no catalytic converter on the car, someone stole it, needs a regular 12V battery, So, overall the car is in decent shape and runs good with a jump. My question is; is it worth buying a $600 rebuilt hybrid battery, $200 12v battery, a cheap $150 auto parts store exhaust that includes a catalytic converter? I'm decent at repairing cars and I could weld on my own exhaust so, labor isn't a problem....the problem is.....is a 1st generation with 187K worth the effort/expense? I never owned a hybrid but, I definitely want to try one out. 45mpg is nice! lol.Anyways, any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Gene

I'd sell it for parts. I know people who have sued (and won) over buying stuff like this in private sales with the intention of having the cars as daily drivers, so either explicitly state "as is", or specify that it should be used for parts.
