Got a 2005 camry le from a friend. One owner garaged all the time, retired one owner. 3k oil changes 4 tranny drains, never smoked in thing runs like a top, headlights interior look new. No leaks drips does not use oil. everything works not shakes at hwy speeds or real bad brake pulsations.
Can you believe it? Are these cars this bulletproof, looks like it has had a water pump at 125 k and nothing else.
Can I expect it to continue to run so well? Only problem is a soft rattle in rear driver side over gentle bumps but on smooth roads is quiet, I guess sway bar links are fine. Suspension is solid is this possible on original struts shocks? It is pretty much all rural country roads miles.

I parked my LS430 for the winter and this car is pretty darn smooth and comfortable to drive, no rust at all.

Is there any high output headlights U guys drop in?
My first fix was to upgrade the headlight bulbs. I live in a 'Dark-Sky' town in Arizona, and the (probably original) bulbs were now so poor, that it was almost dangerous driving here at night. After considerable research, I chose the Philips X-tremeVision as best combination of performance, quality/life expectancy, and cost. The new bulbs produce twice the amount of light and reaches twice as far as the originals.

Congrats! Oil consumption is normal for the I4 and that sounds pretty decent. I’m burning about a quart (oil on L) in about 1,500 - 1,899

For headlights you can upgrade from the 9005 / 9006 to the 9011 and 9012. Noticeable difference . Is yours the base model stereo or the JbL equipped? Stock stereo is lifeless, JBL is decently okay.

Its the LE the stereo is so boomy. I would say coming from my 04 LS I am inpressed by how smooth it drives, cracks bumps very settled. Do owners like the Premier tires? The thing is quiet aside from the muffled clunk, could that be the rear shock mount as the suspension seems fine? A lot of nice little stash spots for things, the seats are nice and firm not all packed out even for over 220k miles(guy weighed like 160 lbs). The seat deck is long I like that, not real supportive side bolstering but not terrible and the lumbar adjustment actually does something. It drives a little sporty and light feeling for sure coming from my garaged LS430. It has auto headlights, keyless entry just a very nice well taken car of car for 1400 bucks full tank of gas ski racks, Oh what a Feeling.

Glad you like your Camry. I really like my 2004 at 195,000. A muffled single clunk is more likely to be a bad sway bar end links, sharper, multiple clunks are more likely to be bad struts assemblies.

Good tires will make a huge difference on any car. I have Kumho Solus TA71s on my 2004 Camry and I'm really liking them. The are really quiet and comfortable, and not at all pricey.

Thanks for the update. So buddys kid would replace the strut 65 bucks a side, good deal I bet? Are there aftermarket struts that are OK, KYB Monroe, others etc. versus OEM? Do most come with the spring like a ready strut? Sorry I don't know how do use the search function.

Is there ever a strut mount which goes bad that is rattling but could struts still be good at 223k miles? This way 65 bucks a strut mount I am done as just the driver rear is clunking. Thanks

Update on 2005 Camry LE currently has 250k on it. I bought it for 1400$ full tank of gas at 220k and have put in brakes all the way around, a couple tranny drains fill, new radiator fluid, the clunks where sway bar links and it burns maybe a 1/4 quart in 3k miles does not drip slip or shake at all even at 80mph. I tossed on some Comfortreads, nice tires, new speakers and a new bluetooth stereo this thing is sweet(think I am into it for 3 grand.)

There is a small puff of smoke in am thats what the rings being worn and some oil coming back into cylinders? Anyway to resolve this lil tiny puff of smoke though I really am not complaining?

Car has had 3k oil changes since inception I switched to synthetic and it gets 33 mpg up a couple from dino I think.

I’m no expert but I think I remember this gen Camry having that puff of smoke on start up because of valve guide seals? Something like that. I think most people live with it because it’s a pretty extensive job to change them out if I remember correctly.
