Scan it for any pending or recent codes.
If you don't have a basic $20 dollar scanner most auto parts stores will do it for free.
Is the car actually running hot?

 

The car is running hot. The AC is not working also. We will take it to a service shop and have them look at it.

 

if the car is running that hot, better not driving it at all cause u risk blowing ur head gasket. have it towed to a shop at ur choice.

 

Have you been checking your oil levels and changing oil every 5 month's/or 5000 miles? There was a recall on 07-09 Camrys back then for ones built in Kentucky.

 

We have been getting the oil changed every 3000-4000 miles. We go to a service shop and they do the oil changes. The oil changes are usually every half year on average.

So this happens in the morning, from a cold start?

 

The temperature goes up quickly after we drive it for a few minutes.

 

The check engine light went off. A/C is now running again. We put antifreeze in the car and some water. Coolant temperature is back to normal.

 

How do you know it rises quickly? Does it feel hot? So as to rule out a faulty temp sensor. If the ECU thinks the engine is overheating, it will... actually I'm not sure, some OEM's will pull timing and skip cylinders in an attempt to prevent damage, no idea what Toyota does here.

I don't think TPMS is related, much less oil changes. I fear you popped a headgasket. I would get one of those combustion gas kits and check the coolant, and also check the condition of the motor oil. It's possible that it's water pump, thermostat or radiator cap.

Oh wait--you just posted--you added antifreeze and water? How low was it, and when was the last time it was full? If it is suddenly losing coolant... it's not a good sign. No leaks, correct?

 

No, A few leaks. It felt hot three hours ago, now it feels cool now. Just have to fix the small leak.

 

Yeah, just a little past half on the gauge both fans should be on(without ac, heater fan off). If fans are on, you need a thermostat.

Don't drive your car while overheating(Very Important!). Didn't read the posts, if your loosing coolant, start there.

I'm constantly amazed that people are so casual about...

• Just a small leak, we keep fillin' her up.
• Uses just a little oil, maybe a quart every two weeks.
• Tire just a little low, was still at 14 pounds!
• Just gotta add some tranny fluid to the trans and the steering now & then.

Obviously I am one of the crazy ones, OCD or something.
