This is my 2012 Camry SE, it has reverse camera, GPS and hand-free Bluetooth which my wife would love to have in her 2007 Corolla.

Instead of spend thousands of dollars to trade up to a fully loaded 2014 Corolla (which she doesn't like the look), I upgraded to a BYD A/V receiver this weekend.

I bought from a eBay seller pumpkin_cool from Hong Kong.

Looks really nice!, how much? And was the fitment just plug and play?

In the pictures its quite hard to see, but does have a slot for a aux wire? I've never really been a fan of installing head units because I wouldn't want any problems regarding the music or something, but if this is simple to install and ready to plug and play, I may consider it as the stock radio sucks lol.

There's aux video/audio input in the back, I plan to use the video input for front camera. Pretty much PnP, radio, sound, DVD video wasn't what got this project going, it was backup camera, handfree Bluetooth for cell and GPS is why I did this upgrade.

I am really interested in buying on of those. Looks good.

- Is it really just a plug and play? no wiring harnesses required?
- How good is the NAV/GPS on it and how does it work (Do you need a CD to boot up the maps, is it a separate item you need to buy to get maps?)

Comes will wire harness, but you still have to verify to make sure your stock harness match the new one. Basically make sure the 3 important wire go to the right place to avoid blow something up, otherwise easy. GPS is excellent, it even tells me I exceeded the speed limit by 10mph. No CD, boots from a Micro SD card that is in the unit. I asked for North American map at purchase and it has the latest streets that built a year ago in my city.

I put it under the dash facing up, no dB lost since it only go thru plastic and glass. Just make sure no metal on top of the antenna. RCA cable was 10m long.

Would have been awesome if you had pictures of the DIY so we could see the harness getting put together along with the cables (ebay photos is not helping me out much). You said no CD but it list that you can play CD? I just bought a stock stereo head to replace the aftermarket on mine but this gave me the urge to upgrade it.

It does say that it doesn't fit models 2003-2006 but don't all 9th gen have the same stereo head or are the specs a bit different? One last thing, does it boot up with the Toyota logo out of the box?

Yes it plays CD and DVD, not bluray disc. Ignore the 2003-2006, just look at my dash photos on page one of this thread, if yours the same then it'll fit. Here's wiring photos.
I'm sure with your upgrade speakers will sound sweet, what speakers did you put in?
Its been a year now, but I nice set of pioneer speakers. Total cost was about 200 for the front and rears and I installed them myself.

They sound much better then the stock speakers but the head unit is really holding them back.

Big thanks for the photos, you are the man. This is differently going to be the next mod I'm doing to my car, going to skip the rims for now. I've been meaning to get a replacement GPS since someone broke into my Yaris and stole it a year ago, this would be a pretty spunky upgrade.

What rims are you going to put on your car?

could you by any chance takes pics of where/how you mounted the reverse camera and how it looks in action on the screen? Thanks!

I didn't use the camera came with the kit for rear view, I plan to install as front camera. My wife doesn't do well in parallel parking, the front cam should help. I bought a camera similar to my Camry and installed instead, now we have matching cars.

1. Drill 1/4 hole here and thread wire thru with grommet, then seal with bathroom silicone.

2. Mount and alight.

My Camry stock rear cam is off center because the trunk opener is under the Toyota logo. The Corolla is dead center and looks good.

How old are the maps and how/when can they be updated?

I got everything installed and working fine except for the reverse camera. I plugged in the yellow wire for camera in and got the red wire next to it to source from the reverse lights to trigger the camera on the screen. Unfortunalty I just get a black screen when it goes into reverse and says no video input?

Raul did you plug the camera wire (RCA input) into the yellow Camera wire or AV In yellow wire coming off the headunit?

My speakers sound so much better now with this headunit I'm really like that! And GPS is very spot on.

Enter Password "8888" and select the logo you want then "update".

By the way I changed the Toyota logo to Star Fleet Academy logo, hey I like Star Trek, and a SiFi nerd. Wife doesn't know the password and can't change back to Toyota, hope she doesn't see this forum.

Since you said sounded much better than stock speakers now I might think upgrade, I notice DVD playback is much better sound. When time come I'll need help on how to swap out speakers and which to buy.

Thanks.

Me reverse camera is the one that came with the headunit. I still can't get it working. I tried pulling in the yellow rca to each cable coming out the headunit. I had in pulled into the yellow camera then tried video in but no luck. Can u post a link to where u bought ur camera? I believe maybe the camera is just defective?

At this point I would use a muti-meter to check video cable and power input just to make sure, most of the problems are the basic issue we overlooked. It's too bad you don't a cable to check you camera on your TV input to make sure the camera works. My bet is the camera is ok and the problem is connection and cable.

I worked on adding a front view camera during the 3day weekend, I forgot that I can't use a rear view cam because it's Mirrored image, I have to buy a dedicated front view cam with NON-Mirrored image. Stupid ebay sellers don't have a clue when I ask them if their front cam mirrored or not, their replies were camera can be installed front & rear, and not one understand my question. Finally I found one that can mirrored and non mirrored by wiring.

So after ordering a new reverse camera I finally got everything working!

Here are some final pics. I ran the wires to the back and up into the trunk making it look oem as possible and it turned out great.

I will make my own thread with a full review

Nice, so it wasss the camera after all. Don't forget to download the latest GPS map, it took over an hour for a 2.5 Gb file. Save a copy of the one that came with the unit on your hard drive, then copy the new map onto another 4Gb Micro SD and make sure it work before you delete the old map.
