I know some of you have tried (most unsuccessfully) to have the factory Toyota VIP installed on your '07 Camry SE (or other models?) and they have had MULTIPLE problems. Well I took mine in last Friday 5/19 to have them install the alarm on my '07 SE V6. They couldn't finish the job even though I left it there from 7am - until they closed. So I picked it up and they told me they would finish this week (yesterday Thurs. 5/25) because I was bringing it in to have the side moldings put on and some other stuff. Well they had to call a tech. to come out from Toyota's corporate office to have them help out with the install (they have never done an alarm install on the Gen. 6 Camry since they are so new). So supposedly they were really close to being done with the install and they broke a $1,500 connector (or something like that, I'm at work so I don't have time to take care of this, so they called my father... we are known at this dealership)... now my car doesn't start because of the piece they broke. They looked ALL around our area and surrounding states and there are none in stock... they had to special order this and now my car will be in the shop until AT LEAST Weds of next week. Ugh. I am so bummed.

Like I said before I know some of you guys tried to have the alarm installed and they couldn't do it. What were some of the problems they were having?

It's sad that I paid almost $30k for this car and they can't even throw in a $400 factory alarm as an option when being built at the factory...

that sucks man. sorry to hear that. They should be able to give you a discount on the alarm or some type of compensation for their error.

I feel for you man, I have the VIP alarm in my 07 SE, it goes off if you open the door like it's suppose to, but the Glass breakage sensor does not work and the beeps when you lock and unlock the door are missing, but the car still runs.

The sad part is, I heard that the "alarm" is just an $400 activation from their scan tool to the ECU. No real parts installed other than the glass breakage sensor if you get that option.

I think they should at least give you a courtesy car. you should ask for that.

Over here in Hawaii, many of the dealers (Toyota included) have a wholesaler install their reverse sensors and alarms. I talked with a lady there and all it is - is a DEI alarm that links up with the factory remotes. They signed a contract with the dealers here not to install alarms that hook up with the factory remotes to retail customers.

So - you'd lose the "beep beep" and have to go with silent arming/disarming or a chirp.

Got the car back about an hour and a half ago. After breaking what turned out to be an electrical harness and the car sitting in the shop for over a week I got it back. The alarm works perfectly, I don't think I have glass breakage (haven't tried) and the dealer and Toyota corporate got me all taken care of. This was the actual Toyota VIP RS3200 alarm, not an aftermarket one. The beeps are still there. Toyota corporate is going to comp me, what I don't know, for being so patient and having the car gone so long.

I'm sorry for those of you that have been having problems with the alarm install from the dealer, they had to call some corporate tech's out to help them since they hadn't done one on the new '07's yet... but it's done.

Glad to hear that the alarm works. Gives me hope that my alarm will be fixed one day. I also got the VIP RS3200 alarm. I gave my service dept. manager the benifit of the doubt but he has not called be back in two weeks. Monday I'm calling and will be playing hardball. Toyota Corperate will be called tues ...etc.

Evan I hope they do right and give you perhaps a extended factory warrenty for free and some other freebies too.
