2008 Corolla rear brake lights not working

I have a 2008 Toyota Corolla model: CE made in Canada in October 2007 with 5 speed manual transmission, 231 000 KM, has A/C, VIN 2T1BR32E08C90CXXXXXX (the last 6 digits were replaced with X for obvious reasons), model code: ZZE130L-DEMDKK. The rear brake lights do not work (both left & right) (but the rear top light in the middle back passenger seat works) and the bulbs are fine, anyone have any common repair tips?, thank you in advance for help/replies.

I would double check the bulbs make sure they're not burnt, they may look "ok" but a filament could be done, and yes I've had BOTH lights go at once before, on more than one occasion on other cars. Another thing to look for is rust at the actual socket where the light plugs in, that would prevent contact and the lights would not go on... use a small wire brush and clean them up.

If ALL were not coming on at once, it would most likely be the brake light switch on the pedal itself, it turns the lights on when you press the brake pedal down, while of course engaging the brakes.

It's quite frecuent that both lights go out at the same time. On our Corolla they literally burnt out hours apart from each other. I bought replacement that didn't fit perfectly and they had a bad connection; sometimes they would light up, sometimes they wouldn't. Replaced them with OEM type connectors and had no more problems.
