2009 Highlander Limited - Does it have Auto-dimming Rear-view Mirror with Compass?

So I got this 2009 Highlander Limited and I just bought it as a used car. It says in the manual it has auto-dimming rear-view mirror with a compass. But when I press the ON button, nothing happens. I also don't see the compass. When I press the power button, the light just turns green but nothing happens. Even if I try to put something to block the sensor in the back of the mirror, nothing happens. Any thoughts?:help:

The dim function only works i you switch on the light of your HL, maybe even if the sensor of the car is measuring darkness...

Compass, yes, as stated out, this should be in the right, top corner of the mirror area.

As the button has power (LED turns green) i think its not a fuse that's blown.

Maybe our NASA specialist can bring darkness in to the light ? :) Or the other way around ? :)

Do all HL Limiteds have the compass feature? My wife's HL Limited (two weeks old, with no rear entertainment system) has the auto-dimming mirror (the auto-dimming functions correctly when I power the mirror on and see the green LED), but there's no compass display in the mirror.

To the OP, do you see a square space in the mirror where the compass direction should be shown? I don't see a square space on my wife's mirror, so I've been assuming her car simply doesn't have the feature.

Our 2011 has navigation and the dimming mirror which displays compass/direction

The text is green in the upper right corner, I think these are standard genex or similar brand
So it sounds like eliminating the compass from HL Limited mirrors happened starting in 2012 or 2013?

At least on the U.S. models, Toyota took out the compass on the rearview mirror going back to 2008 on Limited models that came with nav from the factory. In 2008, only the Limited offered the compass. That's what their "new model" documentation for 2008 says.

This is confusing. If only the Limited can have the compass, AND if the compass only comes on Highlanders without Nav, AND if the Limited always includes Nav, THEN it's not possible to have a Limited with a compass.

Right?

OK, so here are the next questions:

Is it possible to have the mirror's auto-dimming function on, but also have the compass function off at the same time?

If the answer to the above question is "yes", then how do you enable the compass function too?

If the compass function is off, can you see the square where the compass direction information would be, or does it look like a normal mirror there?

haha the plot thickens...

Here is my understanding, nav is an option, even on the limited (there are very few options on the Limited models, like rear entertainment, nav and perhaps tow package)

So we have a poster that has a limited without nav but has the compass in the mirror.

And we have me (photo above) with a 2011 limited with nav and has the compass in the mirror.

I just looked it up in the online owner's manual. It looks like if the auto-dimming function is powered on, then the compass would be powered on too (if the car is equipped with the compass). So it looks like my 2013 Highlander Limited with Nav and auto-dimming mirror does not have the compass.

I can't explain how tagheuer has both nav and a compass mirror. Many Toyota models other than HL also stopped including the compass mirror if it was nav-equipped. Since the power is there for the auto-dimming function, I don't think it's hard to replace the mirror with a compass mirror if someone wanted to.

Again, based on the documentation for the new model years for the U.S., nav didn't become standard on the Limited until 2013 when they switched over to the Premium Display Audio head unit. The Premium Display uses 8 GB of flash memory for the nav data instead of a DVD or a hard disk drive (HDD).

I have the Factory Specs for the 2013 Highlander, all models, listing everything on the car and available. Display Audio with Navigation, Entune and JBL, etc. etc. is shown as Standard on the Limited and Hybrid Limited. The same minus JBL is shown as standard for the Hybrid and optional for SE.

These Specs are a part of the much larger sales brochure produced for all models.

Rearview mirror has one green light

I just purchased a 2013 highlander limited and it does not appear to have a compass.

However, my question is it looks like there are two places for lights on the Rearview mirror. However, I can only get one green light to come on on the left side.

Anyone have a suggestion or explanation?

Thanks

2013 HL Limited has navigation as a standard feature, so no compass in the rearview mirror. At least according to brochures/specs, you don't get the compass in the mirror if you have nav because the nav shows a compass on the map screen.

My wife's 2010 HH Ltd does not have a compass display, but does have the little green light to indicate something is on or off. She does have the navigation. Am hoping it never came with the compass although the owners manual talks about turning it on and off and how to calibrate it. Will have to check with the dealer next time..
