Went to take the inlaws Venza to the beach this morning to walk the dogs and it would not start!

All started off normal, put foot on pedal to start the car, push the button and all I could hear was fast clicking sounds!! I got 2 messages that showed up on the screen, check brake (something like that) and check VSC. When I try to start it now, same clicking sound, but no longer get those messages....now I see the check engine is highlited as well as the Electric power steering system warning light..

Anyone else have this issue and what was the fix? Just trying to educate myself. It will be towed to Toyota later today! All Maintenance has been carried out, actually was in Toyota less than a month ago for routine maintenance. Thank you

The warning signs are probably being caused by the starter sucking up too much power and restarting the ECU multiple times, causing errors. Are you getting a constant CEL now with the vehicle running?

If the car is "on" but not running you will see the steering light as the electric motor doesn't work off the battery.

I just started it again...sluggish to start....Don't have a multi-meter here.....Have put the trickle charger on it and see if that helps! Inlaws will take it into Toyota tomorrow. They have a long road trip coming up, so best to get it checked out!! My dad has the same Venza back In Saskatoon!! TY for the help

I have the same symptom for my 2011 Venza, except that it began immediately after I replaced the rear brake rotors and pads.
The car started fine after finishing the driver side rotor, but won't start after completing the passenger side rotor.

The only possible thing I can think of is if there is a need to bleed the brake lines, but it surprises me that would prevent the engine from starting. I know I should probably double check to make sure, but this is the second thread I've come across that suggests the battery is the problem. It is conceivable, as I may have left the rear gate open for a prolonged period of time and drained the battery somewhat. If left for a period of time before re-attempting a start, the engine does appear to attempt to crank for about 1 second and then the buzzing/clicking starts.

Thanks for any feedback you can offer.
