Hey everyone. Well, I'm shopping for a new corolla, and am running into some problems. I currently owned a 2011 Corolla S, and I ended up writing it off due to a deer running into it (only 17,000 km on it). Insurance gave me what I paid for the car, so I thought it would be easy to just go and buy a 2013 model of the same car. Well, I was very wrong. I was just about to sign the paper work without even looking at the car, and thought, I wanna see what they have done in the last 2 years. I'm glad I did, cuz now I am disappointed with the changes. They got rid of the flat bottom steering wheel which I really thought was neat. Second, they eliminated the bluetooth controls off of the steering wheel. And to top it off, they replaced the stereo unit with some cheap looking touch screen display and got rid of the XM radio, which now I don't know if I can live without. All of these seem to be a $4000 upgrade now. :( So, I have been trying to find an 11' with low km's, but they are next to impossible to find near my area, and the prices are not much better than new. I did find however a 2011 corolla xrs with 22,000. A little more on gas though I'd imagine. So, my question to you all is:

1. What's the best looking and cheapest way to get xm radio and possibly bluetooth option (on the steering wheel)?

2. Or should I buy the 2011 XRS and not worry about the difference in gas mileage. I do commute to work, so it is a bit of a factor.

3. Do the 2012 Sport have the flat bottom steering wheel?

Hopefully someone on here can help me out.

Thanks,

1. well there are two options for the XM there is the factory unit which plugs into the connector behind the carpet in the trunk on the right side or the store bought unit that has its own dash module to control the radio...and possibly for BT there is the blu logic factory accessory but im not too sure about the control on the steering wheel but I know the buttons can go into any of the AUX/blank rectangular slots in the dash

2. should buy the xrs if you can find one in the transmission you want but that is if its in your price range and dont mind that its a gently used car

I ended up buy a 2013 corolla s. It is not half the car as the 2011 was to say the least. It really seems like they cheaped out on all the little extras. There is no xm antenna pre installed on these. No flat bottom steering wheel, and no bluetooth controls on it either. They also got rid of the TPMS. If I remember correctly, I think they got rid of some of the chrome accent trim inside the car as well. This is a canadian model. Not sure if its the same in the US.

are you sure it doesn't have the flat bottom steering wheel and/or TPMS. TPMS should be a government mandated feature or something. Red fisher builds corolla in the Ontario plant I would shoot him a PM or something cause something doesn't seem right. I know some dont come pre wired for XM but the other things seem odd

I've got a 2012 S, and I don't have the flat bottomed steering wheel or TPMS either. Canadian models are different from American models in a lot of ways, and TPMS isn't mandatory in Canada.

I originally had a 2011, but had a transmission issue, so ended up with a 2012 instead. Toyota deleted a lot of features and kept the price the same. I was quite disappointed when I picked my car up, I just assumed that the 2012 would be identical to the 2011. Toyota has really dropped the ball on the Corolla S here, but they have added a lot of features to the CE now. You can get a sun roof, bluetooth and heated seats in the base model now. I would assume that more people are buying the base model, so they would add features to the top selling trim level and take them away from a trim that doesn't sell as much.

My 2013 S has the flat bottom steering wheel =\ I'm in the US though, so it may be a Canadian thing.
