2012 Camry Automatic Sound Levelizer working?

I have a 2012 Camry XLE V6 with the Green Edge JBL sound system. Purchased it back in August 2015. I like everything about the car except one issue I'm having.

I can't tell if the Automatic Sound Levelizer (DSP) works or not. I've been testing it now and then to see if I can tell a difference when it's off or on. The best I've been able to determine so far is that the bass seems to increase slightly when I turn it on while doing about 45-65 MPH. However, I'm not sure if there's actually a difference, or if my mind just wants to believe that there's a difference. And it doesn't seem to matter if I have the surround setting on or off either.

It's a nagging problem for me because my previous car was a 2007 Camry LE, and the ASL worked perfectly. The volume actually adjusted according to my speed and I had the option of changing it to low, mid, high, or off. In the 2012 XLE I'm driving, I only have the option to turn it on or off. Oddly enough, lower trims of the same model have the additional high-low settings.

From the standpoint of sound, the XLE trim feels like a step backwards which isn't a good feeling since I paid the money to own the highest trim.

So, is it just me? Are there other 2012 Camry XLE V6 owner that are having the same issue? Or there something I'm doing wrong? I'M really curious to know before I try to get the dealership to take a look at it.

Kinda disappointing

I guess it depends on your music style. I tried it in mine to see what it even does, as I simply left it on since new, and you can hear a drop in sound quality and slight volume when you turn it off -> on.

This was tested with some hip hop, so hard hitting bass, with some highs and mostly mid. Easier to discern that way.
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I tested it with a few other music genres...Drum & Bass, House, Trance. Pretty much the same results as you. I can only hear a slight difference when I actually turn it on\off. However, I never notice a difference if I leave it on and just drive. Really weird.

Nice analogy. That's exactly what it's like which, in my opinion, renders the ASL completely useless.

Just like when you take 2 sheets of paper that have slightly different shades of white, and consequently compare each of them to a black paper, you will see both white papers have the same shade of white (can't tell which white sheet is darker). However, if you compare the two white papers together, you will notice slight different.
Same concept for your ear. You wont notice the different. As your car is speeding, the sound adjusting is too small (compare to the change in road noise which is much more. Your ear will feel and adjust for the change in road noise, not the muaic sound). However, you will notice the different when you turn on and off ASL while driving (road noise is the same and you're comparing two different music sound - or two shades of white)
