I have no idea what those "ribs" are there for. Im just giving a point of view.

I remember on my first car, I got a drill and one of those attachments used to cut door knob holes and drilled a bunch of holes on the air box. Gave it that throaty intake sound under acceleration.

The sound of an aftermarket intake for SUPER cheap, since I already had the tools.

It was fun messing around with the car. I certainly appreciate what the OP is doing.

As for drilling holes, did you ever have any problems? I made a thread before about drilling holes but I was told it wasn't worth it :dunno:

 

Looking good so far. I'm also waiting for my rubber lip to arrive. But the shaved rib idea on the air box isn't a bad idea, I might do it myself even though if there are no noticeable gains. They're probably there to make it more quiet anyways like all the other useless little compartments that most stock air boxes have.

It's like a port and polish for the stock air box :rofl:

I think the lip I got is the same as the EZ lip. They look all the same on ebay so I got the one that looked the most decent and cheapest. I'm pretty sure it's just a garage door seal also. I'll probably add some screws or clips underneath along with the 3M tape.:lol:

I checked out my local home depot already here and they sell a different type of garage door seal now which can't be used as a lip.

 

I probably should have drilled on the lip instead of taping it :/ I wonder how long it will last for me :dunno:

Like they said. Some people argue less restrictive air flow is better, others argue colder air is better. That debate is older than air itself.

Either way, to me just for the sound, it's worth it!!

 

I would like a more throaty sound, but I actually just went back and read my post and they said to remove the snorkel completely? When I was removing the ribs, there were already 2 small holes on the bottom of the box. Hmm a sign to make them bigger?

 

If you drill the holes, removing the snorkel would be for weight reduction only but it won't hurt you if you leave it on. Besides if you ever decide to go back to stock it will be easier to just replace the box than to have to reinstall that snorkel.

 

Wait what. It would be easier to just screw the snorkel back on instead of buying a completely new air box!

 

What l mean is that if you drill the holes I would just leave the snorkel on. Even though it would serve no purpose, if you decide to go back to stock, all you would have to do is replace the box and hook the snorkel back up.

 

AH! Sorry for that misunderstanding. I'll probably take off the snorkel first and see how that goes. If the sound isn't as nice as I thought then I'll see what I can do with drilling holes!

 

little known fact, the MAIN bottleneck on the 1.8l toyota engine is the air filter itself. if you remove it completely it will increase performance AND you will have no need for the air box to be there as well. so if you remove the filter, you can also remove the air box.

But for some reason, the stock rear is definitely higher than the stock front so how would the rear be lower now even though the springs are both a 1.5" drop? :headbang::help:

 

Haha figured it was worth a shot. I never had to do any work on my 2011 corolla and I never lowered it even though I wanted to so I figured they were completely different just wasn't sure.

 

Sooo I know this is an old thread but to the guys that have had the manzo springs how was the ride.
