Hello, for some background I bought this car awhile back in October from a dealer. Since around Saturday I’ve been hearing a whistle coming from my car when going around 40MPH with the window down. Once on the highway it would get louder to the point where I can here it with the windows up at 60MPH. I’ve also noticed that when I depress the clutch I could hear a squeaking noise. I am assuming that my throw out bearings are beat, but I don’t know if the whistling sound is attributed to that as well. Should I take it to a shop? If so what would they quote me and how long till I get my car back?

How many miles are on the vehicle? What engine? 1.8 or 2.4? Does it make the noise when sitting still or only when moving? Does it make the noise when you push the brakes? It sounds like pushing the clutch pedal in does not change the sound? If you put the car in neutral, both clutch in and out while moving, does the sound change? Is the sound coming from a corner of the car or front engine? Have you tried to roll one window down at a time to determine if it is coming from a wheel or corner?

There are so many possibilities without narrowing down where and when the sound is coming from.

Hello, Doc. Sorry for the late response. I took everything you said and applied it to my situation. The Rolla has 111,598 Miles on it. Bought at 109,130 miles. It has a 1.8. It only makes the sound when moving faster than 40MPH. Depressing the clutch doesn't make it go away. Neither does putting the car in neutral. The sounds does not change when clutching in or out. I tried to figure out where the sound was coming from and it seemed to come from the the upper left side of the car. I am also due for new breaks, but I don't see why the noise would continue if the breaks are not engaged. The sound starts as soon as I am around 40MPH give or take. Thank you for your response!

My clutch pedal squeaks too, when pushed. This changes with temperature and humidity. As well, this will not make a noise when moving at 40mph unless you push clutch in.

There is no dip stick for the manual transmission fluid. There is a fill and drain plug. If you are taking time to check the level, you should drain it and refill. Car must be on flat surface. Some experience is required for this job. A funnel with a long hose attached that fits inside the transmission fill plug hole is required. New crush rings are recommended too.
