Our Sarasota Florida based 2013 Highlander with 135K miles suddenly started to show problems with the AC. There are 4 vents in the front of the vehicle and the left two is not blowing cool air all the time. Intermittently it works and stops working. All other vents are doing great. It is intermittent and not consistent.
I took it to the dealership. He saw no obvious leaks ran a diagnostic and recovered 1.4 pounds out of 1.7 to 1.8 pounds. He charged the system to 1.8 pounds and put a test dye and asked me to go back to recheck for a leak in 4 days. He found no leaks and no dye in the evaporator drain tube and felt evaporator may be starting to leak.
Upon return in 3 days will know. He stated if the issue is behind the dash then it will be an expensive $2 to 3K job to open up and locate the problem.
Any ideas or suggestions and any other places to get another consultation/opinion. I do no mind diagnosing and fixing if reasonable as the vehicle rocks! and should last 5 more years.
Any guidance would be appreciated

Do you keep napkins in the glove box? Every once in a while my Toyotas suck them out of the glove box into the circulation fan, at least on my models, and plug things up.... could that be what is going on with your Highlander? I only have Camry, Yaris and iQ... Not sure where the fan is located on your Highlander?

i would imagine that the issue is with the duckting and the control flaps. Maybe one of them is getting hung up.
theres only one AC in the car (as far as i know). so any issues like this should be control/ducting related...
Just as an update, the ac coils are run from the passenger side to the driver side vents. The ac charge while being in the green zone (3) was low. I brought it up to almost the top of the green zone (4.5) and it's been working like new.
