2015 Corolla S Low Idle/Vibration

Hello everyone,

I did some searching but was unable to find an issue exactly like mine. I have a 2015 Corolla S with the CVT and 92,000 miles. I have been having an issue with a low idle for a few months now. The car will drop RPMs while stopped at a light in drive. The RPMs will drop to as low as 500. This causes a very annoying vibration which is almost constant. This happens when the car has had time to warm up and regardless of if the air conditioning is on or off. As soon as you shift the car into neutral or park, the rpms climb back up to around 800 where they should be. The car is very smooth while driving. No dash lights illuminate because of this issue. I have had the car for over 2 years and it used to idle very smooth.

So far I have tried in the past month:
-Replacing all 3 engine mounts (because of a banging noise when the car hit a bump, idle did not get better or worse after this change but did fix the noise)
-Cleaned the throttle body and MAF sensor
-Replaced the air filter (wasn't dirty at all as it has been changed every 10,000 miles)
-Ran direct injection safe fuel cleaner (has been done with every oil change)
-Checked for any blockages or debris in the air intake system. (didn't find any)

I always run top-tier gas from Shell or Exxon.

If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it, I really like this little car but the vibration is driving me crazy.

Here is a link to a video of what is happening. Sorry if it isn't very clear it was recorded on my cell phone.

Thank you all!

I had a similar problem on a 2007 Corolla, which was caused by the intake manifold gasket being slow to expand during the engine warm up period. Symptoms were the exact same as you described, except it only happened between cold start and operating temp. Toyota actually released a TSB for this gen for the problem.

I'd check for air getting into the engine after the MAF somewhere. The gasket is easy to change and relatively cheap so it may be worth looking into.

I’m no mechanic by any stretch, but I could tell they were wore out. All 3 had enough play that i could move them with my hand easily once I removed them. The new ones I couldn’t. Could rev the engine and watch the engine jump around and see all the mounts move.

I was shocked how much play there was on a 2015 model under 100k miles but I guess those things can happen at any time and I got off pretty easy ~$150 for all 3 mounts from RockAuto.
