I have 2015 Highlander power tailgate does not work. When you push button, it beeps but does not open. Read online if window does not shut tight then hatch will not open. Opened rear window, physically latched window lock with window open. Hatched worked as it should. Closed window and operated once fine, then did not operate the second pass. Repeated above steps, and worked again. But failed soon there after. Any ideas?

Sounds like just a minor adjustment issue to me...
1. Open then close the rear tailgate glass/window, the tailgate wil operate fine, but, only "Once", is that correct?
2. When the tailgate stops working, Try this:
this time don't open the tailgate glass/window, instead just give the glass a firm push (or a couple of firm fist banging around &) towards the glass latch area then see if the tailgate will work or not... Trying to see if it's related to the glass latch adjustment or else...

2015 Highlander LE, 84k miles. Couple weeks ago, automatic tailgate would only open about 2/3rds of the way. Could manually push it up, which we did until I researched problem online. Read several posts on Edmunds Toyota Forums and saw suggestions on how to 'reset' the stops on the tailgate. First, I checked to be sure the tailgate glass window was fully shut by opening and firmly closing it a couple times. Then opened tailgate via the touch switch. As expected, it stopped 2/3rds of the way open. Manually pushed tailgate all the way open, then pushed and held the manual switch on bottom of tailgate. It beeped once, then beeped 4 times. Pushed button and it closed OK. Pushed button and reopened all the way this time. Cycled it a couple times and it worked fine, both via the manual switches and via the remote. Seems they will 'reset'.

Hi all. Have a 2014 where the hatch, after protesting intermittently about working, finally stopped altogether. The latch would release, but that's it. Ordered replacements from Rock Auto, swapped em out and bingo all is good with the world again! Very easy to swap, by the way. I'm up in Canada, the local dealership was asking CAN1000 each and one hour to stick them on. Cost me CAN900 for both from the boys at Rock Auto. Happy hatching!
