2016 Hybrid Camry - Suspension CLUNK on Front Left

Need some help here...I don't really want to be throwing a lot of parts at the car. Clunk noise has been an ongoing issue for a couple years. Oddly it started on front right, but then move to the front left. In the time it has started I've had the following done (or done myself).

  1. All four tires replaced.
  2. Tires have been rotated 3 times.
  3. Front struts & coils replaced. **Replaced with a strut / coil assembly.
  4. All front suspension, engine mount, and subframe bolts / nuts have been tightened to torque spec. **A couple bolts / nuts did take some turning to get to torque spec.
Here is a link to the sound file of the clunk noise. It is only a few seconds long.

Clunk Noise

Noise typically happens with any bumps or changes in uneveness of road where one front tire is above or below the other one. In the sound file I was going into my driveway which I usually have to turn into to get up in the driveway.

I did notice my front left lower control arm bushing looked bad / leaking maybe? I plan to change both lower control arms and the sway bar end links next. BTW...the new lower control arms I got came with a grease fitting (zirc). Should I grease before installing? Anyone rate the difficulty of installing these? The sway bar end links should be very easy, but I'm a bit nervous on the lower control arms...I don't know if there are certain things I should watch out for?

Thank you! I’ll see if I can change those out this weekend.

I’m a bit nervous about doing the LCA’s soon because I’m crunched for time and we have visitors who may need a car. They seem easy, but I’m sure I’m overlooking something.

So a couple months later and a bit of money later I find I still have the noise. Ultimately, it is the transaxle that is causing the noise which is a shame.

Also, since I have a Hybrid I've really posted in the wrong forum. Sorry about that. More research to do in the Hybrid forum on this to see if anyone else has same experiences.

Thank you. So I’ve heard…I’ve checked those and they are tight and are in good condition. I suppose maybe still can cause the clunk?

Funny thing is the clunk also happens on smooth roads when turning and a bit of acceleration. It leans me more toward transmission mount perhaps or steering knuckle.

Right now I’m taking a break from anymore work on the car as it’s running fine and don’t really want to throw more money at it.
