The XLE has "Dual Zone Automatic Climate Control". I expected that system would automatically turn on AC when needed. The automatic control dials up the fan speed when it outside temps rise. But as far as I can determine it does not turn-on the AC. Am I not setting something correctly? Is this the expected behavior or do I have a defective control system?

As a suggestion, as AC is electric and literally impossible to notice, you likely do have it running. Just don't know. Also, AC will ALWAYS come up without any warning, with vents directed at windows in any form. it's safety feature embedded into AC firmware. been like this for years.
