According to the 2020 Corolla Hatchback Navigation and Multimedia Manual, it will have android auto. Here is the pdf so you can see it yourselves, https://docdro.id/qv6AjY9.

There is no 2021 Corolla sedan manual out but most likely it will be getting it as well.

It's still not confirmed if the 2019 hatchback and 2020 sedan will get an update to get android auto but hopefully it will.

Android Auto just got updated and it looks way better in functionality as well, so timing is everything.

Nice catch. Where did you find the manual? I think I'm going to wait till the 2020MY hatchback comes out before pulling the trigger. Trying to figure out when the 2020s are actually going to be available.

As far as I understand the new hatchback/ sedan are using the same headunit seen in the '19 hatchback. So a usb software update is likely on the horizon. There are rumors AA update is planned for 2020.

I've been adding android auto news and rumors to this thread if your interested in additional info.

Funny story. I visited the Apple store not too long ago. Inquired about the camera issue on the iphone6. Was informed that apple won't support iPhone 6 after next update.

Sales tactic. Denied repair but had the camera repaired anyways. They just want to sell a new one anyways.

This just shows the public how apple runs their ecosystem. Not surprised that apple doesn't want Android to run off the same head unit.

At what point will 2 ecosystems coexist? We aren't playing Monopoly anymore.

When it comes to phones most people don't keep one longer than 3 years, especially younger people that want the latest tech. I see very few iPhone 6's as those came out so long ago now. The iPhone 6 is now 5 years old and the 6+ is 4 years old. Both are still supported. Even the 5S which is 6 years old is still supported and that is the oldest supported iPhone. Since cell phones are mobile they take a beating, hence why most people never have the same phone more than 3-4 years at the most. Plus the cameras keep improving and people use that feature a lot.

If I designed a product I would want to run it as Apple does too. They have more consistent quality since things are designed in house instead of by many different companies. Interesting enough I just watched the movie on Steve Jobs this week and it was amazing seeing things from that point. The man was truly inventive and brilliant. The computer world owes a lot to him for thinking out of the box and insisting on selling only quality products and not just trying to make things cheaper to hit a price point. That being said many android phones cost just as much as iPhones.

I used to own PC's but I got tired of all of the patches and crap that was always needing fixing. When my Dell laptop died when I had gone back to school I started asking around on what people thought I should get. The interesting part is that everyone that owned a MacBook loved it, every single person. People that owned a PC seemed to not care much. That shocked me. I had never owned an Apple computer of any kind but I decided to try one anyway. It was so much easier to use and just worked, and worked well. That's why I buy Toyotas! My favorite feature though is that when I do something on my MacBook or iPhone it updates my other Apple products. Simply brilliant. :)

Just my 2 cents. I'm not a computer guy so I just like products that are easy to use and work. And work well for a long time.

Price is set at what the market will bear, not anything else... And Apple is using this tactic... Their profit margin per phone is higher than Toyota's per car...

However it looks, apple carplay is part of the ecosystem. Therefore, the end user is forced to deal with it.

Reminds me of the whole Microsoft anti trust suite from back in the 90's.

The ecosystem is setup so that users will not leave it. Besides, paying full price for a $1k phone might be easy for some.

This is why I prefer to just use Bluetooth as it doesn't care if it's apple or Android and always works well.

I've never really understood the love affair with Apple Carplay or Android Auto. As you said you can take calls hands-free with your BT connection. Some of my cars have navigation built-in and if they don't I can always use a Garmin or my phone. So why the need for ACP or AA??

I really don't know what or why Toyota shifted from their basic headunits to ACP or AA.

I get the fact that entune didn't pan out as designed and caused freezing or bricking.

We will never see the stripped down entry level trims from the 90's. No radio and ac.

I like to just have a head unit that has Bluetooth. It's reliable and no special connectors or software to worry about.

I just use a $15 Bluetooth adapter that gets powered through the power port/cigarette port. It's run through the FM channels. It's better for me since I don't really want to make myself a target for thieves.

I have a few cars with 7" screens that I bought before ACP and AA were around but they have BT and navigation so I still have what I need. If I need to see traffic issues I can just pull it up on my iPhone. Again, I'm not losing anything. :)

I know some drivers that rely on carplay navigation like google maps or waze so much that they don't know the streets at all. A local grocery store that is 3 miles away from where they live, they need to use google maps to map it out...every time they go to the same grocery store... really? That's just sad.

That it is...

I need Google Maps exclusively for traffic information. On usual days traffic my commute is 1 hour long, but about once a week it can be up to 2 hours. Seeing the congestion ahead helps me plan the route and make the commute shortest possible...

What are you talking about, AA is not available in any Corolla tiers yet. If toyota were to put AA in the new factory delivered cars then it surely has to be available to the owners of the car purchased previously. Plus there is not official announcement nor any proofs of AA update on any Corolla 2020 tiers yet. I just checked in my car and no there is none!

My infotainment center is just an oversized MP3 player fueled by a USB drive with 800+ songs on it. I'm not interested in playing around with my smartphone in the car (or anywhere else for that matter really :p), so the lack of Android Auto was a total non-issue for me. No use for the Bluetooth either. I seem to be the minority in that regard in 2019, as those things are deal-breakers for many people.

Yep, definitely a minority. I live and work in LA so it'd be nice to plug in my phone and it shows me the fastest way home. Also, it's nice to say "Okay Google, play some Eminem" and it plays Eminem.

The only thing my '19 XSE doesn't have are lit up foot-wells. Those would be nice to have vs must have Android Auto...

The question is... will the customers who purchased a Corolla 2020 (any trim) as soon as it was launched, be able to get the free Android Auto update in their infotainment system?
or is it a hardware addition they did by releasing newer version of cars later on?
This is soo unfair.. to purchase the car as soon as it is launched, just to find that a few months later, they give you additional benefits and extra features which the early adopters might never get? dafaq

Toyota did this with the C-HR. The 2018 model had a very antiquated head unit. The 2019 model introduced Entune 3.0 and Car Play support which from a strictly OEM standpoint is eons better than the 2018 head unit. But from an aftermarket standpoint, so far, the 2018 model is the one to have as it's easy to find a suitable double DIN head unit which will provide both CarPlay and AA.

It'll be interesting to see if there is an update for those of us with the Entune 3.0 head units with CarPlay only. In my opinion, Toyota is doing a terrible job with messaging Android Auto capability with their various model cars. The slow roll in information on models which will have AA along with silence about any upgrade is not helping matters. Along with what amounts to hearsay from dealership sales people about whether or not there will be a firmware update available, makes this a total fiasco.

Looking at the Toyota.com, only 2020 hatchback gets both Android and Apple. Sedan gets only Apple:
