2020 Highlander Platinum reflection issues

I bought the 2020 Highlander platinum edition a couple of weeks ago. I am having issues with the dash reflecting into the windshield on sunny days. The reflections are so intense that it is distracting. When the sun is at the right angle I also get a glimmer of light hitting my windshield, I think it’s from the sun hitting the heads up display and bouncing off that into the windshield. At night when I go under street lights, I get brief reflectiions in the windshield as well.

Anyone else having these issues?

I have yet to drive a car that didn’t suffer from this to some extent. But I honestly haven’t noticed it being an issue on my HL so far (Limited so no HUD). What color is your interior trim? I feel like it’s less of an issue with black /dark interiors, but I have no idea if that is true or not.

My 2012 Camry can have some bad reflections under heavy sun like you describe...Polarized sunglasses make it completely disappear...Not sure if this would help in your situation but just a suggestion..

OP, which color interior do you have? I'm not noticing the dash reflections. I have the Caramel interior, which makes the top of the dash a mix of black and dark brown.

I think any car can have issues like this in certain conditions. We haven't made it to summer yet, but one thing I know I was looking forward to with 4th Gen is the placement of the infotainment screen. Being higher and more vertical, I'm hoping it doesn't wash out in the afternoons like it does on the 3rd Gen.

So far the biggest issue I've had with glare on the 4th Gen has to do with the digital camera rearview mirror. Certain lighting conditions can make that display harder to see. I've positioned the mirror as best as I can and I find it acceptable now, but I wish the LCD got even brighter during the day.

This is exactly why I chose a dark interior with my LC 500. The light tan leather and dash reflected off all the windows and was way too distracting. The dealer said that for about $1000 he could install some sort of coating on the inside of the glass to minimize this, but I never pursued it. So there may be an expensive solution out there.

Cheapest solution to the dash reflections in the windshield is a good quality flat black/brown dash mat. You can probably DIY with the proper material and double sided tape or wait for some aftermarket provider to come up with something for the '20 HL.

I have noticed the HUD and HUD opening do reflect. Other inside angles not so much really. I would be happy not to have the HUD as it does not provide any real information and depending on light and / or sunglasses can not be seen well anyways. Nice idea, poor implementation....

Polarized sunglasses cure this problem.

I also found my HUD opening to reflect onto the windshield and make it borderline hard to drive esp that HUD is right in drivers view. I contemplated sticking some felt tape or film on dash opening to reduce it but i am skeptical as it will not look right at all. Hard to cut properly to make it fit well.

I don't notice an annoying reflection in mine and I purposely do not use the same cleaner or protectant coating as on the dash or panels/softex/leather. I use only a low gloss/no gloss cleaner on the dash and HUD surround which preserves the original dull matte finish.

Learned from past mistakes a clean looking gloss finish will look great but make the eyes bug out of your head if the Sun hits it at just the right angle.

Didn't mean to imply that you did....all it takes is one run through a car wash and who knows what crap they slap on the interior dash......might even happen on new car prep by the dealer..........doubt they care enough to use an interior detailer product with a matte finish especially on the surround of the HUD.

And reflections from the dash is minimal compared to others....the Platinum has some real problems with a bright Sun from behind the driver's window wiping out the image on the main dash screen and an overhead Sun reflecting the open dual moonroof ghosting the image in the electronic rear view mirror..........even a half closed shade doesn't help..
