Hi Everyone ... I tell ya, I'm about to lose my mind! Something is going on with my windshield and wiper blades. Within no time, new blades (premium one, regardless of the brand) start skipping bad. They start out good for maybe a week, then they start skipping. This alone makes me think that my arms (being possibly bent) is not the issue. I've cleaned the glass real well ... no help. I've even tried using something called "Chemical Guys HydroView Ceramic Glass Cleaner, Water Repellent & Protective Coating" ... if anything, possibly made it worse. I'm a monthly member at a carwash called Mister Carwash and I do run through the carwash normally once a week. Any chance that there is something in their liquid wax that could be part of the problem? The only other thing I can think of trying next is using a clay bar on the glass (which is something I know little about). Thanks much in advance for any guidance!

This is going to sound strange but try bending the wiper arms out away from the windshield a little bit. My explorer had the same issue so I bent the arms out just a small amount and it stopped.

this is going to sound really weird, but I have done it, and it works, especially on cars I've owned or rented that have gone through car washes that add wax to the final rinse.
Take a larger size Coca Cola and pour it slowly over the windshield, let it sit a minute, then rinse it off. There is something in Coke that takes the film off the glass.
Don't know what it does to our bodies, but it works on windshields.

I also think the carwash is add to the problem. Car washes today add a TON of chemicals to the wash process in order to get the greatest shine from an automated process - especially if its touchless.
Yeah, it's touchless and I pay for their premium monthly plan which puts on a liquid wax. Just ran through their this morning ... and ... problem is worse! It's so sporadic, but I think I have found the root of my problem. Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions. As a side note, I do have a set of PIAA aero vogue coming tomorrow.

have you ever tried wiping down the wiper blades with rubbing or denatured alcohol to clean them? I do it after every rain event. They last much longer.

Get new inserts. Mine are now doing it after 2.5 yrs as well. I need to go get some.

Coca Cola has been used for along time on windshields and i recall it being effective on bug splatter. It contains phosphoric acid which dissolves a number of substances, including teeth...

We consistently have gotten good results and reasonably long life from Honda and Toyota blade refills (on a Civic and Prius) and which are reasonably priced at the dealerships. Bosch blades also have given good results on our other cars.

To remove spray wax you might try a mild hand dishwashing detergent followed by a good rinse and wiping down with methyl alcohol. A clay bar might work but keep in mind that they're mildly abrasive and you don't want to add fine scratches that could scatter light - experiment first with something like window glass , checking before and after for scattering from a spot source of light, like a flashlight when dark. When cleaning windshields, wipe in straight lines either up and down or across (pick one) but avoid circular motions to avoid micro-scratches that will always be scattering at some angle.

That should be done with extreme caution, as Coke can eat the car's paint if it's left on because you didn't see it. If you try this method, rinse long and thoroughly.

Car wash will leave a film. Use Windex with vinegar and clean it a couple of times. Then get a pack of straight box blades. Slide them across the whole window surface with the Windex vinegar spray as lube. One final clean and clean your wiper blades. If you need new wiper blades, give the Walmart Michelin cheapos a try. I've tried them all and these clean the best and last.

Chances are your wiper arms are slightly twisted and the blade isn't perpendicular to the windshield. Look up

I've witnessed new razor blades leaving fine scratches in panes of house glass (the light might need to be just right to see it, try a flashlight at a low angle while in the dark). Hardened steel (i.e. razor blades) is 1 or more points harder than glass on the mohs scale, so beware.

Ammonia is good for cutting wax, but be very careful when using around a car - I'd be reluctant to do a whole windshield but it one could consider using a little of it on a rag as a before and after spot test to determine whether more benign cleaners removed a film.
