My new 2023 Highlander Limited Hybird - #3 valve spring Failure.

The other day I went out to move my new 2023 Highlander Limited Hybird with only 175 miles on it.
Upon starting, it was running rough like a misfire I though and the engine was shaking. Warning light and message was given.

"A malfunction in the electronic control of the engine, throttle, or automatic transmission has been detected.
Contact your Toyota dealer to have your vechicle inspected.

I contacted the dealer and had the Kighlander towed.

The next day I was told that there was a broken valve spring for the #3 clyinder. After repairs what should I be worried about and watch out for?

What are your thoughts

This should be the minimum to ask for. Considering this is only a few weeks old I would consider asking them to replace the vehicle.

Best case they may be able to fix this without pulling the head.
If they cannot, they will either pull the head (major surgery) or replace the engine.

Replacing all springs is a good idea. Due to the amount of labor the dealer would be better off replacing the head assembly.

Let us know how you make out.

When I asked the service separtment about the other springs and was told if I wanted them replace it would be on my own expense. I do know there has been been valve spring issues in other models, number of years ago and at one time Toyota had required all springs to be replaced. So after this repair is completed what should I do, be worried about and watch out for?

They can probably replace a spring without pulling the head. It could just be a fluke with that one spring didn't get proper heat treatment and suffering early failure in the field, aka "infant mortality".

If several were to fail, then that's a systemic failure and would require more drastic corrective action; but for now let them swap it out and drive on. You have a good warranty to cover if anything else breaks in the next several years.
