Looking for insight from anyone who’s had hybrid issues with their 2024 Sequoia Capstone (or any other trim).
I’ve now had a “Hybrid System Malfunction” pop up twice — once on August 24, 2024, and again on Saturday, May 10, 2025. Both times, the following errors appeared at the same time:
What’s strange is my tow truck driver (through Toyota) said he had just picked up another Sequoia with the exact same issue over the weekend. Yet, the dealership says they haven’t seen this before.
I’d love to hear from anyone who’s experienced something similar or has insight into what’s really going on here. Want to keep this rig running strong long-term.

- Drive-Start Control System Malfunction
- Check Engine – “Malfunction in the electronic control of the engine, throttle, or automatic transmission has been detected”
- Hybrid System Malfunction
