Im a self trained hyper mile driver. My primary car is a 2011 Tacoma V6 DCLB 4x4. Driving my wife’s Highlander was able get 31.5 MPG on a ideal 249 trip from St Augustine to Boynton Beach Florida. I used 7.9 gallons in 249miles. Fill at start and fill at end, car was parked perfectly level front to back and side to side. No traffic set the cruise control to 71MPH and averaged 67 MPH..

Nice work. I've gotten that a few times, but only driving just over 60Mph. If flat and warm outside, no wind. This drivetrain combo will do really well. I took a trip south and put on over 1000 mi and avg'ed 28.5mpg. That was fully loaded with cargo carrier on the back driving 72 avg on interstate. I'd be curious to hear what "hypermiling" techniques you use on this vehicle?

Whew. I wish. The combination of my Highlander's 20" wheels and very grippy CrossClimate2 tires equal pretty rough fuel economy for me. I love the year-round traction those CrossClimate2s provide- but they come with a huge mpg penalty. I was able to get decent mileage with the factory 18" wheels and factory Michelin tires- but not with the CrossClimate2s.

I think the new transmission gearing helps a lot, as I've also noticed an increase, and I'm pretty heavy on the gas. But going 65-70 and the engine holding below 2,000 rpm is wonderful. My 2012 Highlander was revving much higher, so not much help unless I was going below 60...which doesn't happen in our area when most are going 70, at least on the slow lane.
