Hi,
I'm looking to get this swap done (not by me)... I have to see how much it will cost me. What are the parts that I will need to buy. Reading some info on it it seem that people have different opinions.

I have found a 96 3.4L at a low price for me 93 Truck (manual).

I know I'll need :
Engine
ECU
Wiring Harness

What else should I add...

I have read ...
Flywheel
Clutch

Seems to me the Edelbrocks said the same thing, but I can't figure out why. Must be something in the way on the 3rd gen? Since we're all custom anyway, very little is going to be a bolt on affair. You could call and see if they know what it would hit on the 3rd gen and find out if that's a problem on a 2nd gen with a swap, maybe?

BTW, wheelerz, did you get my 2 part PM?

Yes, you'll need the 96 computer. Totally different ignition, afm, etc.
I do NOT recommend Edelbrock headers. Pain to make fit, not very good production methods, etc. Go with Downey and don't buy the crossover. Save some dough that way, too.

If you look in the top left of the pic, that's where I mounted the EVAP canister that comes with the 3.4. You can also see that the battery has to move to the other side. You can see that the intake is on the opposite side, which makes for some difficulty with the cruise control cable as it doesn't reach any more. Here's a couple more pics...

If it fits Im sure its a REALLY tight fit.
The 3.0L in my '90 4Runner was crammed in there and was almost impossible to work on (the only way I ever found to get the oil filter off was to take off the right front tire).
If you can, post some pics of swapping out that engine. Id like to see just how tight the 3.4L fits into a '90 4Runner.

Im not sure if the 3.4L will fit.

I know that Toyota came out with a 4Runner that was wider in '97 when they first put the 3.4L in the 4Runner. Im also pretty sure that they made the truck wider when they put the 3.4L in it too.

Im not 100% certain of that though.

You might want to look into putting a 2.7L I-4 in your truck. The horsepower is no better than the 3.0L, but the torque, fuel economy and ease of servicing is much better!
