Seems like the ignition coil on these cars gets weak or goes out sometimes.
There is a test procedure in the Ignition section of the online repair manual. ... or just replace and see if that's it.

How is the distributor cap and rotor ... ever been replaced?

Reverse/Stop light problem might be a wire harness in the trunk, where the trunk lid hinge is .... separate wire cover and inspect for loose or broken wires.

I think I have the similar problem with my car. Using the manual online and running the test, for ignition systems, has lead me to having my am2 30 fuse blow over 5 times. i was mucking around on the fuse board and have found that my am2 fuse has power going to it all the time, which if I am not mistaken is not how it should be. Any Ideas? Thanx. J

easiest way is to just switch your key to the "on" position without cranking the car and have somebody looking under the hood at the same time to listen for the fuel pump starting up and pumping

Ok I did that... heard the fuel pump start up but it just kept trying to turn over. Had a incident where a car back in to the front of my car pushing in the headlight and busted the side light but not the bulbs. I didn't try to start the car in till the next day . I backed up and turned around and pulled out of the driveway on to the street . Then my.. 2000 carmy 2.2l shuts down just the engine tho all the electrical worked . I tried to start it but like I said it keeps( I don't don't know which one comes first ) cranking but not turning over or turning over but not cranking. Any ideas??

On these cars, KOEO (Key-On, Engine-Off) does not prime or start up the fuel pump. The fuel pump only runs when cranking or the engine is started, so you will need to crank while somebody listens after removing the rear seat cushion.
