Access to inside left rear bumper to push out dent

Backed into a damn concrete pylon with a 2011 xle. Makes me sick. I've purchased a hot air gun to heat and soften the bumper cover, but there is no room for hand access to the inside of the bumper to push out the dent (from underside). Without removing the bumper, is there any other way to get access to the spot I need to push out?

I've had something similar that happen to me. Do it soon as the sooner you can unpop the dent, the less it'll show on the bumper.

I'd heat it up real good with the heat gun and maybe use like a metal rod or something to 'help' push it out. Otherwise, it's removing the bumper.

Thanks guys!

I got the two screws off the left fender well and was able to pull the bumper cover just enough to pop out the dent. The top screw was a bit hard to get to, but I finally got it with a 10mm deep socket w/ flexible extension. The threads were rusted out and never completely tightened when reinserted. I might have to get a new screw from the dealer for piece of mind.

The thing that surprised me the most was the dozen or so smallish rocks that dropped out when the bumper was pulled back! They must have been wedged up there pretty good.

Now that the dent is out, the damage is less noticeable but there are still some gnarly scrapes. I'm not sure if these can be fixed other than replacing the entire bumper cover.

I'll post an updated picture tomorrow.

P.S. - It doesn't look like bumper covers are all that expensive: https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Toyota-Bumper-Partslink-TO1100243/dp/B004GCGOJY/
How much does it usually cost to have painted?

Those pre painted or bare bumpers are hit and miss. If possible, I’d try snag a used OEM factory one with same color. After market bumper quality (how solid the bumper is) and paint match/quality is questionable .

I would try rubbing compound first. Then you’ll need. To use touch up as it’s thru the paint. It’ll look good 20ft away but you’ll notice it 10ft

Is there much difference between rubbing compound and IPA? I wiped down with IPA and it seemed to help. Would rubbing compound make much more difference?

UPDATE - I'm an idiot...I was thinking mineral spirits. I will pick up a bottle of Meguiar's ultimate compound or scratch x next time I'm at the store.

I would use the Meguiars Ultimate Rubbing Compound. I do not like scratch x or others that say they blend in with the dent. I have been told that these scratch removers actually remove a little bit of the paint and blend it in the scratches. Problem is that is washes away with time because it now doesn't have the clear coat or other top coat to protect it. I'm not sure if this is true just what I have read and heard from several people. Use the compound and then wax and see how it looks.

A good spray on a bumper you bring to a body/paint shop will run at least $250 or more. They are loosing at least 3 times that spraying your bumper with the missed insurance work.
