Accident update...

Well a few weeks ago I posted how some douche backed into me in a parking lot at Wawa. Well I got a new job since then and I no longer have Fridays off so getting to a body shop to get an estimate was out of the question, plus I really didn't want another stock bumper going on seeing as how they suck for offroading. Well I convinced this guy's insurance to come to my house and do the estimate there. I just got the check in the mail today.

A whopping 664.30$ :whatwhat: (Dealer quoted me about 500$ to do the repair plus labor.)

Now, do I want that Schrockworks bumper and drive around with a dented rear bumper, or do I get the custom DO bumper made for the rear?

If you plan on putting on a winch soon, get the shrockworks, if not get the rear bumper it will help more with departure angles.
The only problem with the Schrockworks is I'd need to get new OME coils for up front. Now would Doug from Toytec let me trade them in for 885s or 886s at a discount, or would I need to buy a new set? Either way I run into having to get the new ones installed because I don't want to worry about dealing with a spring compressor.

Then comes the fact...what size winch do I need? I don't plan on doing any really hard wheeling until it's paid off, but I'm sure I'll get stuck before that happens. How much would a good winch run me? I've never really looked into one.

Go with the rear bumper, I doubt Dougs going to to take back used coils unless there is a problem with them, which means more $$$ and then the cost of the winch more $$$$. As for a future winch well you want to spend some money here. A winch is not an area you want to skimp on. Typically you want a winch that is rated at 1.5 times the gross vehicle weight rating. For me my Warn M8000 is perfect, its super reliable, it outpulls all other winches in it's range, by a long shot, and you can get them down to under 50 lbs (I'm doing a writeup on this sometime in the next week or so) , that's half the weight of some other winches like Superwinch or Ramsey. Stay away from Milemarker and other cheap china made winches. If for some reason I need more pulling power then 8000 lbs I can just pull out a snatch block and do a double line pull that doubles the pulling power to 16000 lbs. Quadratec has a steal of a deal on M8000's, you can pick one up for $529. That's crazy, and is the best price on them I have seen, by far. If you want to know more, drop me a PM, I've been using winches since I was a kid on the farm so I'm pretty familiar with them and would be happy to share what I know about them.

I send Doug an email and see what happens. But thanks for the recommendation. I truely appreciate the help. And I wasn't about to skimp on a winch. :D

I'd go for the rear bumper too. I priced out the Shrockworks with one of the ramsey winches they offered and it came up around $1400. A good deal more than you got from the insurance company so unless you have $$$$ stock piled somewhere to add to it......

Well, I got the 664.30$ from the insurance check. Plus I'll have 40 hours of OT in by the end of this month, and my income tax return shortly there after. We'll see if I have the 1400$ by then. If I do, y'all be seeing me sporting a Shrockworks bumper with a Warn 8000. :naughty:

Cool. If you do get the bumper and winch don't forget to pick up a tree strap, a couple clevis hooks, and a snatch block or two. You'll need/want them to anchor off to other things besides another truck.

Are you still going to be getting a pair of sliders as well? I think your truck will be set up pretty good once all is said and done. Any word from Doug yet?

Which coils do you have now? Maybe I'll buy them if Doug wont take them as trade-ins. Let me have first crack at them if you decide to sell?

I still have to talk to Doug about my coils. But as of right now I really really want that schrockworks bumper and winch combo. I figure that my rear bumper is already banged up so if I dent it some more on the trail who cares right? I already have three clevis. Just need to get a tree shaver and snatch block. And yes, I'm still getting the DO sliders. Even if I have to dip into my savings a bit, I'm seriously going the schrockworks/winch combo.

TACOMA915

If I have to get new coils I'll definitely let you know, and I'll let the coils go for cheap since I won't have ANY use for them. Right now I have the 884s, but if I get the bumper/winch I'll need the 885s at least. But I'll probably get the 886s.

Marnes

I'd love to be the official recovery vehicle...but I'd seriously would like to get stuck. I still haven't found the limits of this truck, and without getting stuck how will I? Besides, getting stuck isn't something to be ashamed of...just lets everyone know you were wheeling hard enough right? :naughty:
