Add rear a/c to 08 CAMRY LE TSS EDITION

I'm thinking of adding rear a/c in my camry le TSS EDITION. Has anyone done this or heard of someone doing it? I haven't put too much thought into it yet but I figure I could find me a vent and install it in my center console with some round flexible duct to the existing vent system. I haven't looked for a suitable tie in point. Any suggestions?

-Already added aftermarket 7" touchscreen with bluetooth and steering wheel compatibility, auto dimming rearview mirror with compass and homelink, sub and amp, SCANGUAGE II computer system readout for gas mileage and such.

i guess he wants to change it to look like lexus cars where the ac comes out of the center console. does anyone know that that crap of a hole is for in the rear of the center console for the LE? it's not a damn cup holder just looks like a useless tiny hole...

My XLE has the A/C rear vents build into the center console....not just lexus. Their was a thread about adding rear A/C, which ended in nothing as their is a lot of ducting, air channeling needed. To my best knowledge, their is no air vent under the seats to start with - at least not in mine.

I have the black vents under the seats as well, it looks like a vacuum cleaner heads. I have a clean stock 08 LE.

I think XLE is designed differently since it already has the center console vents.

And I don' t think it's worth it to install it on an LE, with all the ducting, air channeling like Tobeit said, it's just too much.

part number is 58903-06050-b1 - believe the middle console does not have an air supply routed into it so you'll need to tap into the floor board rear air vents. I was going to do this mod way back but gave up since I couldn't find a way to get from the floor to the middle console discreetly.

the part number is for the backing of the middle console that is in a hybrid. if you do this mod, please document well, take pictures, and post it up as I am still interested in doing it myself.

-edit-
oh and when you remove the back panel of the middle console, there should be an air duct that feeds directly into the air vent back piece, from what I saw, the air looks to travel around the middle console arm rest box unless under the box there is an air feed up into that vent. my inspection looked as if the air passed around the box assuming it feeds up from under the shifter console/cig lighter area. it might just be routing if you can remove the arm rest cabin to see what is underneath it.

Thanks for the replies...

And yes I just want a vent that will blow at my kids heads not their feet.

TSS Edition is a sport appearance package that includes:

18" Chrome Enkei Rims/low profile tires
ground effects kit
rear spoiler
stainless steel exhaust tip
and the TSS badges

(a 4000 dollar adder but it makes the car look super hot!)

If i knew how to put a pic on here I would show you!!

How to post Pic.:D

The cheapest and probably the best way is to point all the vent in the middle to the back and max the fan. :) Sure it'll cool the entire car but this way it push more to the back. If you want, turn off the two sides to help the circulation.

way too much hassle for little payoff....shoulda bought the XLE if you wanted rear a/c
my back seats have the small vents under the front seats and they work fine enough for the fools that ride in my backseat

This is from personal experience.
the head air vents are routed behind the radio. That vent is plugged since i do not have a rear center console vent, It is set up to install the rear center console vent you just need the parts from there back. There is no need to tap into the floor vents.

I have not seen any vehicle tha does not have the feet vent for the rear.

that crappy cubby hole on the rear of the LE is a replacement where the vent goes.

Thanks rydr1. I will look into that.

Ohh and CorCamrySE my kids are possibly just a little more important to me than the "fools" that ride in your backseat.

Thanks everyone... If I pull this off I will post again!

seems like a lot of trouble for all this. have xle and already have this. i'm sure you can get all the parts from the xle and do it for under a grand though. if not go to a customizing shop and they'll do it much cheaper. anything can be done with some time and money.

i think i have to agree with njerald. it won't be as functional as stock. though it'll look nice. time for you to prove us wrong...

I can.............

It'll just be a wantabe jury rigged vent that does not have the foot, bi-level, high vent versatility/functionality of the XLE.

You might as well put the dual control A/C panel on also if you just want it for looks......
I'm not looking for anybodies approval, you guys have already made it apparent that I'll do a shoddy job so there is no need for me to update this thread with my progress. I'm glad you both have XLE's, For me it wasn't worth the several thousand dollars more than my LE. I hope I can prove you both wrong, but again I'm not looking for approval. Thanks for the encouragement though.

we are not trying to be mean we are saying that many people though of doing this but it's never going to be as good as original unless you have every single part. plus me i was just trying to provoke you to do it as it would be a great mod. sorry if i came off a bit mean.

Pedron,
Sorry that you don't get it. In this world, there are a lot of people that don't get it. What you need to understand however is that you can replace the back panel of the console with an a/c vent, but that isn't going to get you a/c in the rear. Try finding a junk yard and gut out the parts on an xle if you can find one. Failing that, new parts are available through the Toyota parts system and will cost a fortune. At the end of the day you will still not have a system that works as you want it to. I am a happy LE owner and would love to have the air connected to the rear. It isn't happening.

What you don't know, or can't read is that I ordered the XLE parts yesterday from my local dealership. It came out to a grand total of $92.58 for everything I need to complete the install. Thanks for assuming that I'm a dumbass yahoo like most of the kiddies on here though. I really appreciate it. I'm also quite happy to hear you're enjoying your LE.

Just curious. What did you buy for $92.58? The end panel alone sells for 83.86.
