I believe high end Corolla opt with a dimming mirror in the Gen9. Those mirrors have compass and a map light built in there.

What model mirror is the Gentex one? Toyota has just the auto dimming compass one (temp in the lexus) only.

Gen3 has a different mount than the Gen4+. Might need to get the mounting plate from a Gen4+ and mount it on the windshield like in the Gen3.

i like that thread. for a while i was looking for a small console/set of map lights to wire in parallel to the oem dome light to improve nighttime visibility in the front seats, never made much progress on it.

a number of years ago, i did an s-10 overhead console retrofit into a b-body caprice. initially everything stay nice and tight, all the map lights worked, self installed leds worked. as the overhead console settled into the headliner, more and more rattling developed (probably from poor mounting location). in the end, the large size of the console wasn't worth the light output and real estate it took up overhead.

I just purchase the top of the line Gentex and harness at the time. I pick up a mirror from the P&P and cut it leaving only the base so the cover would snap back. This left me with the OEM mirror should I ever trade and want to remove the Gentex. I purchased a black metal "button" to mount the new mirror to the windshield. I removed the A pillar garnish and it was a very easy install. Naturally you have to run some wiring but no big deal with a fish tape.

Got a recommendation for a retailer? I'm having trouble finding Gentex's catalog. Not to hijack this thread, but I'm going to have the carpeting in my Insight redone from the economy-car gray to a nice plush black, and while it's out I plan to run audio and the mirror neatly. Kinda want to go for the top-of-the-line as well, backup camera, compass, auto-dimming, the works.

Holy Batman!!!

Okay, well for what it is worth I can pull the dimming mirror w/ compass and temp (if so equipped) from a 2002+ ES/Camry XLE for $10 bucks at a junkyard so...

So far I’ve upgraded several of my cars with those mirrors. Contemplating on the Corolla but that one has a nap light built in it.

But dang they look so good but cost more than what I bought my car for hahaha!! Thank you for sharing those links! I’ll still look into what options and models are out there though!
